For my personal phone, I have S3 and friggin' love it. I was thinking of upgrading to the S4 but no real difference there for me.

This is true, yet for someone like me that has a N4 my girl has a HTC One & a N7 chromecast makes sense. We can install XBMC on our phones or her tablet and basically use them as XBMC streaming/remotes to our TV.

Damn it, still haven't heard of an official release date for the Verizon HTC One. There was rumors of an August 1st release date but I haven't heard or read of anything since.

Did you try manually updating through the phone settings? You can also download the official image from Google

I tried but it says it's up-to-date. I don't want to get into installing via external means. I guess I'll wait a bit. It seems I won't be missing much anyways.

That's what I was hoping for. To mirror XMBC off my phone to my TV using chromecast.

Alright, well it looks like Verizon will be launching the HTC One on August 15.. about [expletive]ing time.

They'll also be releasing it in blue. If it's a dark navy-type back plated blue, I'm all over it.

to wade and draztik,

I havent read anything about the chromecast, but it can stream [expletive] off your phone? how does XBMC work with it? and would i have to root my phone to install XBMC?

i don't know much about media streamers, but I was looking into the WD TV Live Media Streamer mainly because it can play all types of movie files (including the weird ones like FLV and MKV or whatever that a lot of other media streamers cannot)

any tips/recommendations?

Basicaly how it works is you set it up over it's built in WIFI. It doesn't mirror your device like airplay does but instead it will show content from certain apps that are compatible, ie youtube, chrome (which it will mirro) etc. More apps are supposed to be made that use this feature. It's really using Google's Servers to stream from them to the chromecast the content you want while you use your device as a remote so to speak.

Root has been achieved for Chromecast and has been made to mirror a Android device but it's still unstable for now with that.

XBMC does not need root to install by the way.

It depends on your needs, some need a HTPC for reasons like you said they play MKV and can be used as media servers. Some people like me just want XBMC on their TV without needing to connect a computer to it. I might get a Asus Box, Roku or Oyua but Chromecast is looking like a nice cheaper alternative.

Yeah its like 30-35 dollars cheaper then then all the other media streamers

So just to clarify, I can get XBMC on my phone (I'm semi familiar with XBMC, cuz I had it on an appletv, but the android XBMC has access to a bunch of shows and movies and [expletive] right?) and from there stream it to chromecast?

Thanks for the help btw!

Yea XBMC on Android can use all the add-ons as the computer version. I'm not sure if XBMC can stream through Chromecast now I'll have to test it once I get one.

I use the Google swipe keyboard, it doesn't have the numbers right on top of the keyboard, but (to me at least) swiping is cleaner and regular touch to text is more responsive

I love using swype. Hate when I have to use regular keypad.

And I hate when I use XMBC & have to type for what i'm searching for. The keyboard is in alphabetical order & it stinks.
