The originals are revered because they were the first of their kind. People are nostalgic...people don't really like screwing up things from their childhood.

The stories were presented better in episodes 4/5/6 and part of that may have to do with it being fresh...brand new. But let's not act like they were perfect.

I never said the original movies were perfect.  I said they were better movies than the prequels by a long shot, which they are...

Funny, Sheldon would probably agree with me on this one...

They're not better...definitely not by a "long shot"

Some days I'd rather watch the originals and some days I'd rather watch the prequels.

remembering viral internet videos, from before Youtube time is strange...

Like the wild west of the internet...

How did anything get done?

I remember in the old days, there were more then one search engine then just google....

That you would used to throw phrases into the search engine to find sites...

Now I go to the same dozen sites, and that's it...

The internet has been tamed and controlled...

Those anarchy days of 56k modems... and cable internet was something special... Falling asleep in between loading webpages...

haha, yea, i forget what it was that reminded me of it, but i found it through google awhile back...

The acting could have been better and they could have nixed Jar Jar

  • Darth Maul is in the movie for like 5 minutes & does nothing...
  • The big lightsaber fight at the end was cool I guess but it's completely ruined in editing as they had to keep breaking the fight up with scenes of all the other plot lines going on...
  • Absolutely horrible origin story for Anakin
  • Qui Gon is a pointless, useless character.  When I first saw this in 1999 when it came out I swear for the first half of the movie I thought Liam Neeson was playing Obi Wan, that's how worthless of a character Qui Gon is...
  • Obi Wan is made into a worthless character in this movie as well because of the presence of Qui Gon.  Obi Wan literally does nothing the entire movie until he kills Maul at the very end...
  • The visuals in this movie are light years ahead of Episodes II & III, I'll give you that one.  They actually shot this movie on film and used real sets & props for a lot of the scenes, unlike Episodes II & III...

lightsaber battles are always fairly short, in every movie..and almost always get cut off with other plots...how are you gonna hold that against just ep1

- Darth Maul duels Obi-Wan AND a Jedi Master in Jinn and actually kills one of the most revered Jedi ever and it's..."nothing"???

That fight scene is better than the originals final scenes...COMBINED. But you miss the main point of Maul: revelation of the Sith...or "re-revelation".

- Again, there is no comparison with the fight scenes. The originals fight scenes were just plain embarrassing to watch. What the prequels did is make the force look bad-ass, make it look powerful and believable, allowed the audience to see what real trained force users were capable of doing. Acrobatics and the lightsaber sparring was superior to ANYTHING that the "sequels" have done in that area.

- How is the origin of Anakin Skywalker horrible? There's no hard evidence of whether his existence is due to Plagueis and/or Sidious or just a result of the Force itself. But, that's what makes it intriguing. I mean, it's a sci-fi movie.

- Jinn was apprentice to Dooku, master of Obi-Wan Kenobi, discovered Anakin Skywalker, so how is he a pointless character? He was sent to handle the Naboo situation. I mean, the council could have sent someone else I guess??? This is a time when the Jedi are plenty and it's just Yoda/Luke/Leia like in the originals.

- Obi-Wan is not even one of my favorite Jedi but I don't get your beef. At the time, he was just an apprentice so what exactly did you expect him to do???

I think some people who hate the prequels are just pickin' to be pickin'
