Ariza pronounced his foot fully healthy on the eve of training camp, saying he spent most of the summer in the gym honing a jumper that needs to be more consistent to make opponents respect his ability to knock down a three. He also tried to add weight to his slender 6-foot-8, 220-pound frame, but the results were not immediately apparent.

"Man, I think my metabolism is way too high because I was constantly in the weight room, I constantly was eating, and I only gained five pounds," Ariza said. "I ate steak, potatoes, a bunch of ice cream, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, everything, and it just wouldn't stay on for me."

I eat that much as well and I neVer gain weight.

Some people are like that.

Plus, putting on too much weight will throw off his game. He should play at a weight that allows him to feel comfortable, and therefore play his best. He's a speed defender, not a physical enforcer .

well at least he knows he needs "a little" bulk for the carmelo's, peirces, and artests of the nba, hopefully he can get in somewhere where hes still a speedy defender and can take those guys as well

Well, he tried. His metabolism is just like mine; can eat a lot of junk yet still not gain any weight.

I wouldn't worry too much about Ariza; he can handle himself. It's some of the other players on this team I'm worried about.

other than defense his strength was his ability to create his own shot off the dribble hell it might be as much a reason why hes getting consideration for the starting job as his defense

also his quickness is a lot of the reason for his success he only needed 10 more pounds really and he put half of that on

at least hes trying to better himself how come i never hear about lamar bettering or attempting to better himself

also why is lamar always the last player to get going and knock off rust in the season

people on this team i am not worried about because they all have strong work ethic

kobe bryant
pau gasol
andrew bynum
derek fisher
jordan farmar
trevor ariza
sasha vujacic
DJ Mbenga (he is what he is)

people i wonder about

vladamir radmonovic
lamar odom
luke walton
chris mihm (health reasons)
josh powell (doesn't seem very smart)

If he's got a consistent jumper along with his great d he'll be one to watch throughout the season, he'll be pretty deadly if he can get it done offensively as well.
