Ariza pronounced his foot fully healthy on the eve of training camp, saying he spent most of the summer in the gym honing a jumper that needs to be more consistent to make opponents respect his ability to knock down a three. He also tried to add weight to his slender 6-foot-8, 220-pound frame, but the results were not immediately apparent.
"Man, I think my metabolism is way too high because I was constantly in the weight room, I constantly was eating, and I only gained five pounds," Ariza said. "I ate steak, potatoes, a bunch of ice cream, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, everything, and it just wouldn't stay on for me."
