What do you need blank CD's for? System restore doesn't delete your files.

Do you have vista?

Press the start button and in the little search box type system restore. Click on it and restore it to an earlier time. Your files wont be touched (Documents, Pics, Vids, etc.)

Have you checked you hardware on control panel to make sure the sound card & controller are showing up & working normal? It could just be a driver issue. Also, make sure your proper sound card/controller is selected as your output & input device for audio.

Also try:
Control Panel>Hardware & Sound>Sound
then Right click on Internal Speaker/Headphones
Insert Headphones into the jacks, and click on Test. Hear sound?
then remove headphones, right click again on Internal Speaker/Headphones, and click on Test. Work?

Hardware and Sound
Sound
(Click on the 'Playback' tab)
Click on 'Speakers Conexant High Definition Audio' to highlight it
Click on 'Set Default'

I can hear the sound just fine; it's just adjusting it is the problem sometimes. Like now, the volume bar on the taskbar is acting normally now but I bet you it's going to start acting up again. And, the volume sliding bar still doesn't work. I'm not going to do a system restore until I'm sure that will fix the problem.

it's gotta be a driver issue. Just go to HP's website n go to support. Then look up your model & reinstall all audio drivers.

I tried virtually everything from HP's website. I'm prolly gonna take it to bestbuy but I can't afford to right now.

Someone from HP thinks it could be a virus.

I uninstalled the audio driver, reinstalled it, installed the latest audio drivers, quick launch buttons driver, everything. Still nothing.
