The other day it just suddenly [expletive]ed up. Loads up to the windows error recovery screen, where you can choose to launch repair or start normally. Neither help, takes forever, then finally gets to a black screen, then a mouse appears on the black screen, and nothing ever happens after that. Clicked on start in safe mode, last working configuration, boot logs whatever whatever, tried every option... it just goes to a black screen with a mouse cursor on it.
Someone help please.

Get to the black screen by starting up normally, then hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and see if you can start the Task Manager.

”C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe” “http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?GRAB=BLACKSCREENFIX”
Hit OK, and it should start the browser and download. Be sure to hit "Run" and let it download and fix your problem.

It's all black and I can move the cursor around. So fun. But besides that, nothing. No task manager, no right click, no normal shut down. I just have to hold onto the power button til it turns off.

Sounds like worst case scenario is a bad HD, get one online for like $40-$60. If reset doesn't work.

If that doesn't work, and if you have a Win7 DVD, pop it in and boot from it, then select "Repair my computer" and then to "System Restore" and look for a way to restore to a certain date, or since the last Windows update.
If that doesn't work and you have the Win7 DVD, try this:

You could also let your laptop sit for a few hours (just have it plugged in so it doesn't die) and see if it FINALLY shows your desktop. If it does, open up a browser and go right to:

Download and run.

Safe mode, normal, whatever else mode still goes to the black screen with cursor. I don't have W7 disc, I downloaded it when they had the $30 deal for students. Is there a way i can download the repair disc or whatever and burn to a disc and have that load up? This sucks... I most likely lost all my info huh.Try to bring up the Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) in Safe Mode.

And no, you can keep everything you have two different ways: either getting the disc and using it to restore to an earlier date, or removing the HD and copying it over to another computer.
