AMC says 5.3 million viewers for debut of The Walking Dead. The Mad Men FINALE got 2.44 million, by comparison.

Zombie-tastic: 'Walking Dead' ratings huge

AMC's The Walking Dead premiere ratings are enormous: The 90-minute Halloween night premiere delivered 5.3 million viewers.

That's the largest audience for any cable series premiere on any network this year.

It's also the highest premiere numbers for any series in AMC's history.

I watched about half of The Walking Dead, and I will be the first to admit...it got to me. The part where they were in the house and the kid's mom (zombie) was walking to the house, and trying to get in...Freaked me out, and I rarely get freaked out.

The beginning threw me off a bit. 1st he's getting gas & things have already gone to ish. He then blows away that little zombie kid.
Next he's talking to his partner in the car & they end up setting the road spikes. He gets shot & ends up in the hospital only to awake to things gone to ish.

Superbly acted, directed and written.

I could watch 20 episodes of this right now.

The zombie make-up/SFX is really good. IMO.

Only 2 things bothered me
The horse getting eaten.(zombies didn't see him just chillin' when he was pent up?)
The blood smeared writing on the wall.(that perturbs me)

The guy and his kid, the guy great acting.

I thought the torso zombie was gonna be his wife after he went after it.

KNB Effects - they are major kickers of serious butt in the world of make-up and effects.

She was in the tent with his partner. What I wanna know is how they didn't recognize his voice?

The horse should have been written in for longer  . Seeing guy ride with a bag full of guns was just too awesome. :eh:

It's gonna be something when he finds out his partner has been banging his wife. It makes me wonder how long was he in a coma?

I would've like the horse to be around more too. It gave a throwback feeling, like gunslinger-ish.

I'm wondering where dude went in the Challenger.

AMC announced today the renewal of The Walking Dead for a 13-episode second season

AMC ordered 6 episodes as the first season because they were unsure how it would be received.

Little did they know that it would be AMC's biggest show yet.

They filmed 12 episodes originally, so 6 are already in the can for next season. Now that they've been officially renewed for a complete second season, the next run will fire up quicker than normal and more than likely include 12 episodes.

Great show.

good show. needs more zombie action.

Where did the one handed man go? Can't be camp. Crew on foot beat him back(how is that possible?).

Loved it when they busted up that zombie(zombie suit) and walked amongst them.

Anyone here see Dead Set on IFC?

don't watch mad men, breaking bad, or walking dead

but considering those are 3 of by far the most critically acclaimed, and revered TV shows i think its safe to say AMC is really ahead of the curve in creating winning shows right now

Breaking Bad & Walking Dead are great shows & yes, AMC is on another level.
Who'd ever think a sitcom about zombie's would fly? Or one about a Meth cooking teacher?
Never seen Mad Men of Rubicon but i've also never heard anything bad about either show.
