Could The Raptors Be Close To Signing Shannon To MLE?

Posted Image

The Raptors are still waiting for Chris Bosh to make a decision, but they haven't completely stopped all other operations.

Toronto is "close" to reaching an agreement in principle with a free agent for some, if not all, of the team's mid-level salary cap exception.

No names have became immediately apparent, according to league sources.

The NBA's mid-level exception is worth more than $5 million, but teams can offer less to players.

Doug Smith of the Toronto Star lists Matt Barnes, Ronnie Brewer, Shannon Brown and J.J. Redick as potential targets.

Ariza and Devean George exposed the Laker role players. You're not that good once you're off the team and you played well only because of Phil, the lakers system and Kobe. No way these teams get fooled. Shannon is probably the last of their options but still an option nonetheless

2 time champions always look attractive. teams will never learn and shannon brown will get overpayed

Hopefully Mitch doesn't try to match there offer if they even give him that much.

mitch has grown too much as a GM. i doubt we'll see very many mistakes from him from now on

^ but thats all he can do

average to below average shooter, average defender, poor ball handler, below poor B-Ball IQ

he is honesltly just a high fly act. james white could probably do most of the same things shannon has done for us the past couple of years

yeah this news makes that scenario a little more intriguing.. I just dont think we could deal for Bosh without giving up Bynum because financially, that is too much to be paying (considering how much we would be paying Kobe, Gasol, Bynum and Bosh.. Bosh would get close to max money if not max money if he were involved in a S&T so I think we would have to include Bynum because of the ridiculous amount of money he is making right now (due $29M over the next two seasons, and has a TMO worth roughly $16.5M in 2012/13) and how much he will demand after his contract is up.. for a guy who might never be the same due to his existing injuries even if he does recover and stay healthy, a BIG if), is he worth that much? plus, say he does stay healthy the next two seasons, you dont think he is going to be asking for a raise, which could be close to max money, if not max money? Even if AB asks for the same amount hes getting now, Id MUCH rather have Bosh at $3-5M more per year.. just my opinion.

I do wish SB would resign with us for a couple mil a year.. he wont though.
"He's the best player in the game. It's just that simple. There's nothing that Kobe Bryant can't do. He will defend your best player. He will shoot from the perimeter. He will get all in your mug, he will do whatever it takes. He is the most complete basketball player in the game today, bar none. He has an assassin's mentality." -- Stephen A. Smith

24 years old and now with two championships on his resume he can only get better practicing with Kobe and Ron Artest everyday.
