If Sun Yue’s first press conference as official member of the Lakers is any indication, he is going to be more popular than the Jonas Brothers at a 10-year-old’s birthday party.

Nearly 50 media members — more than 30 from Asian television or publications — crammed into a makeshift conference room (actually the Sparks locker room) to listen to Sun talk about his goals for his rookie season, adjusting to L.A. and what he needs to improve.

“I’m too skinny for the NBA,” Sun said.

The Asian media, mostly based here, captured every word and then surrounded the 6-foot-9 guard to get his comments in Chinese. Several Chinese television stations even followed him out to the parking lot and continued to film him as he stood talking to his translator.

For more on Sun’s press conference, check back tomorrow.

I'm not fond of this guy.

The Lakers should have just signed a tough stalwart, like Livingston.

Sun was unproven. And Kobe wants to win now.

He would provide so little spark and he appears too skinny to play basketball in the professional ranks. >.<

A couple of months from now, you guys might be clamoring once again about their lacking in toughness.

Kobe doesn't want to win in two to three years. Now. Now. Now.

Another reason to be so excited about the upcoming season, can't wait to see Sun playing on the court in a Lakers jersey.

That's unfair for other players...

define 'unfair'. All-star is about who is the most popular player. The NBA is a business, and if Yue would bring more viewers, and thus more money into the game, it's completely fair. Why did Yao in his rookie season start over Shaq? Was it fair? No. But did it make economic sense? Yes.

This isn't NCAA or the Olympics. The goal of the NBA is profit.
Gooden>> Lamar Odom. Mo Williams>> Ray Allen>> Gasol. Nene= Gasol.

What makes you think that Livingston would be more effective than Yue? So far not a single team is interested in Livingston yet. There has to be a reason for that. In his few years with the Clippers, he probably played about 2 month efficient basketball. He was injured all the time.

Having Yue on this team has no impact on the Lakers winning chances. But it give us one more potential rotation player for the future. No one expects Yue to be a star yet. We all looking at his potentials. If it does not work out, it won't affect the Lakers.
