The USC football program will receive a two-year postseason ban, a reduction in scholarships and a forfeiture of wins from at least the 2004 season when the NCAA releases its sanctions on Thursday, a source told ESPN's Shelley Smith.

The Los Angeles Times reported the NCAA sanctions include the loss of more than 20 scholarships.

Found out about this early yesterday. Not surprised with the vacating of wins and loss of scholarships but I think the 2-year ban is too extreme. They are punishing players that had nothing to do with the entire situation. I'm sure you will see USC appeal the bowl ban to try and get it removed or down to a one year.

I know a couple players from the team and they are actually very positive about the whole thing. So are the other players on the team. Recruiting will be hurt in what Kiffin can pitch to the players. Losing scholarships isn't that big of a deal because USC hasn't utilized all their scholarships for the last 5-6 years. They usually have about 6 or 7 left over and right now USC would lose about 5 every year for the next four years.

Great minds, I was thinking the same thing, I would like the appeal to reduce the 2yr ban like you said. We can sugar coated all we want, but these penalties destroy the schools program. I felt so bad for the basketball team, the players who had nothing to do with that mercenary student were punished for something they had absolutely nothing to do with, where is the justice...LOL

Im a Huge USC fan and a Future Trojan (Fall of 2011) Heres my take.

I think the NCAA did the two year Bowl ban to really save themselves. Its not right to Punish players from this years team. I believe this Targets the wrong people and everything. Plus The rules are set up to have Schools lose the appeal. No taking away the 2004 Title and vacating wins? I dont see an issue in that but I dont think Reggie took Extra Benifits. But the 2 year Bowl Ban is BS. I think they targeted the wrong people and everything and its not fair
