The movie looks cool, but I think they should've made it in Japan, since karate originated in that country. Cool performance by Jaden Smith! I'd love to have Jackie Chan as my teacher.

I will never watch the remake.  The third karate kid and the next karate kid also belong in the trash pile of cinema.

The remake is absolutely fantastic.  Those that miss it are depriving themselves of a good film and Jackie Chans acting, particularly in a scene I won't spoil here is absolutely spectacular.   You can often forget that Jackie Chan can do drama, but really there wasn't a dry eye in the house.  Jaden also did a fantastic job.   I've really been long awaiting a sequel but as Jaden is older now I don't know how they pull it off as he's much older than he was then.

Entire audience was standing, applauding and hoot and hollering during the tournament, it was like I was actually at a tournament.  And the final "kick" got a roar from a theatre audience I haven't heard in quite a while lol as well as a standing ovation.

That movie, plus the atmosphere of the theatre audience and how it captured them was special, and one of the best memories I will ever take away from a movie theatre.

^ I guess the critics might've missed on this one according to you then. Rotten Tomatoes, metacritic, and imdb all have it basically at a 6 out 10.

That's why I don't listen to critics.

*potential spoilers ahead for those that haven't seen it*

In many ways a lot of things that didn't make a lot of sense in the original(for pure 80s cheese) are greater understood here.

The Villain of the rival school is also very well done, not just the 80s cheese douchebag, he actually 'abuses' those kids and it turns them into what they are.   Jackie's backstory and being a 'lost soul' is also more explored though both scenes hold emotional weight THIS scene with Jackie's backstory made me cry and that does not happen often.

Ultimately it seems like the master and the student truly learn from each other as opposed to being solely 'master and student' which is something I like.

Not to mention this little kid that tourmented Jaden would kick the crap out of Johnny

But part of the reason Jackie made Jaden do manual labor to teach him Martial Arts had to do with the life lessons he was trying to teach him as well the way to treat others(as Jackie's introduction was him being disrespectful to his mother) so the 'labor' was more a 'lesson' as well as everything.

Jackie's words about Kung Fu are also very from the heart.  How Kung fu lives in "everything we do".  Within how we treat people as well as in how we do our daily activities.   And when he breaks this down to him it makes sense, and when he took him to the temple it was truly beautiful.

It has it's funny movements and the outline is the same premise and some of it is banking on the fact you saw the original to understand why they go the certain routes.

Also love the relationship between Jaden and his mother.  They have a great chemistry as well.

The Love interest was kind of 'meh' but her very strict parents as well Jaden's 'bad' influence on her are also things he had to get through so he could actually grow as a person.

There's a lot of things I truly like about this film and there are many things the film executes BETTER than the original though I love both films.   The remake is DEFINITELY worth a watch.   If you don't like it or feel the original is better I get it completely as there is always great aspects to the original and a nostalgic piece of it in our hearts.

But THIS is an example of a remake done RIGHT and Jackie Chan is at the top of his game acting wise and otherwise as is Jaden and the rest of the cast.   They took this very serious and also had fun with it.  It's a fantastic remake and was worthy of a sequel as well.

I'd say watch it yourself and form your own opinion :) It's definitely worth it.

Or you could watch Nostalgia Critic's "Old vs New" of it and decide whether to watch it after finishing it.  But there will be major spoilers.
