Mike Riley just agreed to an extension with OSU, so he is out.

Now the search begins. Jack Del Rio is the favorite amongst Trojan fans. I'll keep this thread updated.

Pete says the move is not a result of USC probe...

Talking with the Los Angeles Times, Carroll said his pending move wasn't in reaction to possible sanctions the Trojans' program faces as a result of an ongoing investigation over whether players may have received improper benefits.

Could there be sanctions coming? Sure.

But it my opinion, I think the NCAA doesn't have much to punish USC severely, if at all. A four year investigation into Reggie Bush about a house his family was living in, not him, is a little long for a NCAA probe. They may be trying to find something so they dont look like idiots cause they went on a four year wild goose chase.

Update: USC has contacted Boise St. coach Chris Petersen.

There are plenty of rumors running wild right now.

An interesting name that also come up is Bob Stoops. Earlier, it looked like Herm Edwards may be the guy, but now its being reported that USC is looking at proven college coaches. That's how Stoops name came up.

IMO, I think we hear about a new head coach by tonight or early tomorrow.

Lane Kiffin is a good hire based on his recruiting year 1 at tennessee

but the real gem is monte kiffin who will hopefully have USC defense back to speed.

2 NFL coaches, one offense in Lane and one defense in Monte will attract a lot of kids who want that extra notch in their belt

also Lane runs a very similar offense to pete

Yes. But for every coach that goes there, it never turns out good so I really don't count that stint. BTW, I am a Raiders fan lol.

But here are my thoughts on the hiring:

I think its a great hire for USC based on the fact that he is bringing a great staff. Many want to point to him being an idiot and arrogant jerk, but guess what? Pete Carroll was arrogant too. That's what makes coaches succeed. Look at Saban, Meyer, and Miles too.

Kiffin can recruit. And thats the most important thing. He has a swagger to him and USC has lost its swagger the last couple of seasons. He will bring it back to SC.

Coach O is one of the most well respected recruiters in the nation and is an intense coach that coaches with a lot of passion.

Monte Kiffin is a defensive guru and our defense with the talent it has is going to be insane in the next few years.

And the Chow deal is not finalized yet, but if he does end up at SC, the offense is going to be fun to watch again. He hasn't been successful with the Titans or fUCLA, but lets face facts, Titans had Kerry Collins as the QB, and fUCLA doesn't have that much offensive talent. He will inherit an offense with playmakers that he hasn't had since his last stint at SC. I'm most excited to see how he helps Barkley progress, we saw what Chow did with Palmer and Leinart.

Our recruiting class will be one of the top classes in the nation. I am glad to say that because earlier this morning, I was worried about losing commits. Coach O, thirty minutes after the announcement, was already at Heritage Hall watching tapes on recruits. Three players have said their commitment is solid again, Woods, Grimble, and Morgan.

The two recruits that I am keeping an eye on are Kyle Prater (WR) and Dillon Baxter (RB/WR). Those two guys were scared off my Pete leaving, but I think they will come back after the coaches get to them. Prater was actually suppose to meet with Kiffin this weekend at Tennessee ironically for an official visit. Prater may be back as a commit sooner than later.

Well those are my thoughts. I am very excited about the direction of the team.
