We all know that Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis and coach Lane Kiffin don’t exactly have the healthiest of relationships.

But could their relationship come to an end after just two games of the 2008 season?

According to to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, it could. Kawakami reports that Kiffin could get fired on Monday or Tuesday if the Raiders don’t look better against the Chiefs on Sunday than they did against the Broncos on Monday night.

Kawakami reports that James Lofton, Tom Rathman and Jim Fassel, in that order, would be the most likely candidates to become the head coach if Kiffin were fired. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, whose profanity-laced tirade this week was widely viewed as being an expression of anger toward Kiffin, is apparently not considered a candidate to be the head man.

Of course, it is the Chiefs that the Raiders play tomorrow, so it’s entirely possible that Oakland will win. But a W in the standings won’t change the fact that this team is a mess, and that Kiffin’s departure is coming sooner rather than later.

[expletive] Al Davis.

Rob Ryan is garbage. Kiffin is doing a good job... it's not his fault the defense can't stop anybody. :D

Yeah, Kiffin isn't a bad coach... he's just in a bad situation.

question: remember earlier in the year when Davis wrote up a letter of resignation for Kiffin to sign, and Kiff refused to sign it???

Does this mean that Kiffin would essentially have to get bought out if he's canned on monday?

Yeah, Al Davis would still pay him his contract.

Al Davis is already paying Norv Turner and Art Shell.

Good god. Kiffin still has two years left... and Davis still refuses to see that he's the problem.

So Kiffin is a good coach, but Ryan sucks. How is that possible? They're both stuck with the personnel they have. The Raiders' O sucks. The Raiders' D sucks. I think Kiffin blows because he doesn't know how to run an offense and tailor the attack to the skills he has. He has never had success in his brief career. Meanwhile Ryan HAS had success and is widely regarded as a solid defensive coach.

Firing Kiffin = good
Firing Ryan = stupid
Davis Firing Davis = godsend

Who would want to coach this team? This guy hires a new coach almost every two years.

Al Davis should sign a letter of resignation, not Kiffin.

ridiculous.
they finally show a sign of progress, and Davis is going to pull some [expletive]-backwards bs again.

any thoughts on who'll replace him?

Ryan?

Yeah mostly likely Ryan, unless Al goes looking for Art Shell again.

As a lover of unintentional comedy, I HOPE that happens.

Somebody hide under Davis's desk and scare the life out of him
