SHOW YOURSELF.

There are different distros the most popular is Ubuntu, it's as easy as a windows install.

I used Ubuntu for a month and loved it, much better than XP, 30x better than Vista and 10x better than WIndows 7.

Now I use Arch, I built everything in Arch myself and it took me countless hours over a 7-day stretch.

All that greeted me was a command line now I've installed a desktop environment and window manager but my sound still isn't working and I have ****loads if things to work on.

But my computer boots in 14 seconds with Arch so its all good.

ANY LINUX USERS OUT THERE? I KNOW THERE ARE A COUPLE.

I used Ubuntu on my old laptop before I got my new one, which came preloaded with Windows 7. The reason I switched, was I didn't want to pay for Windows 7 (I had a pirate version, that was running stable, but didn't want to take a chance of pirated operating system, once again).... and I was curious how Ubuntu would run on a 3-4 year old laptop. Well, it ran like a dream. Had tons and tons of free goodies.

However, the new laptop already has Windows 7, without paying the pricetag. So I'm happy. While I would agree Linux builds are miles ahead of Vista, I disagree on both XP (one of the most stable and popular builds of Windows EVER)... and to date, Windows 7 is what Vista was supposed to be.

BTW.... moving this to the appropriate sub-forum.

I'm taking a Linux class right now and trying to decide which distribution to go with. I have used Ubuntu a lil here n there but Fedora looks nice as well

I realize that this is very old.. But I have been dual booting Windows and ubuntu for a while. Haven't tried arch or fedora.. But one of my coworkers switched from ubuntu to arch and another from ubuntu to fedora.

I'd plow Vanessa Bryant.
