I don't see why you would need 50 hours of playing time. iPods are made for day to day use, meaning you use it up for the day, then charge it at night. And a "fix" really isn't that easy.
50 hrs battery life is better for the iPod. You don't need to keep charging it which kills the longevity of the battery life.
The "fix" is easy. Take a look at the Classic. It's thicker so the battery has to be bigger. The Classic drains more battery compared to the other 3 because it takes a lot more battery power to constantly spin the drive.

Well the more you drain the battery dry, the faster it's life will die.

Yes It's true, but well 24 to 30 hours of music and 5 or 6 of video are good for me, of course I would love more, but I don't think Apple wants to do that...
