I see everyone is excited about the new features, so I'm going to talk about a few of them. I've had an IP.Board for almost four years on my site, and there's absolutely no chance I'd go with any other board software.

Let's see what we have...
  • Ignore Feature
If you need to ignore a member, but can't do that on your own (because guys DO get on others' nerves through PM's and in legitimate discussion threads), there's an ignore feature. Go to the profile of the member you wish to ignore, use the simple drop-down menu to the left, under his personal photo (Options), and select the option to ignore him/her. You can't ignore the staff members, but ignoring a member makes their posting invisible to your eyes, and keeps them from PM'ing you (I believe, I have never had to use this feature). You can manage ignored members in my Controls (under the banner) > Manage Ignored Users.
  • Fast Reply Box
Older versions of phpBB didn't have this by default, but IP.Board does. The fast reply box is probably one of my favorite features. You know exactly what it does and you know where it's at (always waiting for you at the bottom of each topic, just hit the button), but if you want to keep it open all the time, go to My Controls > Board Settings and select yes to "Open Fast Reply automatically when available?"
  • Useful Tags
If you want to embed a YouTube video, or cover up a potential spoiler, you can. To the left of every post reply, you will see a Quick Access box under the Emoticons. Each selection will explain how the tag works. Hell, you can even center items, something you should have been able to do with all versions of phpBB.
  • A real member profile
IP.Board actually gives you the chance to have a real member profile that's actually worth reading. You can have an About Me page, add a personal photo, and maintain a list of friends and comments.
  • Extra Board Settings
Under My Controls > Board Settings, you have the following options:
Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?
Do you wish to view images in posts, such as smilies and posted images?
Do you wish to view members avatars when reading topics?
Do you wish to get a board notification when you get a new personal message?
Number of posts to show for each topic page?
Number of topics to show for each forum page?
If you dig around, you'll find more and more...I definitely don't want to spoil all the fun. :(

We were going to go with the cruddy phpBB but decided to go with the phenomenal tool that IP.Board is when we talked to Brandon about it. Haven't regretted once.

You can, but it costs extra (and I'm not the man paying, haha).

That's something we might discuss later. However, right now our #1 priority is to get these Forums rolling with dedicated Laker fans. And it's look great thus far...

How will this server hold up when it gets really big like cl or lg and a huge trade goes down or Kobe leaves?

I'm not exactly sure the details of our host, so that's for Jim and Kam to answer...but so far, so good. :(

If it's a dedicated server, we should be fine. If it's not, it's a very easy switch to go dedicated (just costly).

I don't even know and I don't even want to think about it. http://lakernation.c...tyle_emoticons/default/laughing.gif

The most users we've ever had on the TLN Blog was about 428 and it seemed to run just fine. However, that was the blog which is total different software than the forums are. So, I don't know...

I know! It's very costly to run your own dedicated server. When we start getting some sort of a funding source, will talk about it then. However, our hosts haven't complained once about our bandwidth since we joined them over a year ago. So that's something good...

you should do what lg did and ask for money
they made like $2400 in a few weeks and got a new server

it would be worth it though since this site has great potential to be something

Well instead of asking for money - members can buy their event tickets from TLNTickets.com.

That way - you guys get to go to events and help pay for the site. :basketball:

Or you can get some Kobe/Gasol '08 stickers. http://lakernation.c...tyle_emoticons/default/laughing.gif

Whats the difference with the "quote and +reply buttons?

If I click +reply it still quotes the member. Why would I have to click on "quote?

I think the quote button is to quote multiple members instead of just quoting one member.
