Retirement is a strong possibility for Kings' forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim as his 31-year-old body begins to wear down.

Abdur-Rahim's troublesome right knee could prevent him from taking part in October's training camp, which could mean retirement and an early start to a coaching career.

The Sacramento forward said his physical progress remains "slow," and that he's "going to sit down and focus on that when I get back."

He's currently on an 11-day trip to Africa that will conclude on Monday.

Abdur-Rahim averaged just 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds in six games for the Kings in 2007-08.

Guys like him Steve Francis, Grant Hill and Penny Hardaway started out great careers but injuries really cost them into superstar/hof status.

I thought he was going to be REALLY good when i first saw him at Memphis, sucks to have his career go downhill over the years.

Yeh, in a couple of years all the older players will be retiring and the upcoming new players will arise. Sadly Kobe is mixed in with the older player group but he'll probably last longer than most of them because of the age he joined the league.

Allen Houston and Shareef would be a very formidable duo...

for a street ball tournament in my backyard...me and my buddy would sure give them a run for their money.
