i've always been a jeter fan, i hate the yankees, but jeter is the kind of player you appreciate for what he does and how he handles himself on and off the field. he has .332 batting average, 17 home runs, 61 runs batted in, 23 stolen bases, on base percentage of .399 and a slugging percentage of .478, and he's scored 95 runs. those are good numbers indeed. his home runs and rbi numbers aren't astronomical, but last years AL MVP had 17 homers and 83 runs batted in, along with a similar batting average. so it wouldn't surprise me if jeter gets the MVP award this year. plus he's playing on a team with the best record. other players with monster stats are playing on teams with bad records, so that'll help.

Jeter is one of my favorite players, but he isn't going to win it. Right now my choice is Joe Mauer.

his numbers are amazing. true. he was actually hitting over .400 for a large portion of the season, but the twins are 1 game over .500, and they've been under .500 by a lot at times this year. so i don't know.

I would agree with you about the Twins hurting Mauer's chances but the MVP doesn't always go to a player on a good team.

2003, Alex Rodriguez wins the award, his Rangers finish 20 games below .500 going 71-91.

I think the race will be between both DJ2 and Mauer, I like both players. They play the game right and you don't hear them acting like idiots off the field.

I like Jeter and I love the way he plays the game, but he does not have the numbers to win it. It would be undeserved if he were to get it.

^if dustin pedroia can get it after a season of hitting .326, with 17 HR's and 83 RBI's, anything is possible. there's some decent competition this year though, not liek past years, but still decent. kendry morales, mark teixera, evan longoria, justin morneau, miguel cabrera all seem like good candidates.
