I think also was that it was all unexpected.I post at a Denver Broncos Forum and I get hater after hater of Kobe Bryant. PM's, attacks in general threads and so forth about Kobe. I've given evidence as to why Kobe is innocent, and they just respond, "He rapes". It IS fustrating. I think a combination of things makes people not like Kobe.
1). He threatens Jordan's crown.
2). 04 incident.
3). People think he drove Shaq out of LA.
4). Because of all of the above, the media makes him out as a BAD guy.
It is annoying though.
He was at first loved for being the "next MJ", winning championships, and he was one of the NBA's golden boys with one of the cleanest images. Yea he was a ball-hog, perhaps selfish... but he had no crime record, had a good family, no tats, was winning, one of the NBA's best yet still so young, etc etc.
But then the rape accusation (which was in 03... and he got caught cheating on his wife either way), the breakup of the dynasty, the losing (and remember, MJ just didn't lose in people's minds)... it all led to the media and more and more people turning on him.

Yeh they always give me that stupid excuse too. It's like a 'what does that have to do with anything, you don't even watch basketball so just shut your mouth' kind of thing. They couldn't even hate on another player because they don't know any other players besides maybe Shaq and LeBron James.most people that hate on Kobe on that level don't know enough about basketball to back it up. they just say he's a ball-hogging rapist, and that's it.

yeah he had a "lebron" type hate before the rape incident (like mostly casual or knowledgable basketball fans), but afer that, he lost all his endorsements and the trial was on for a whole year so everyone and their mother started to hate kobe due to the publicity

People also hate Kobe for losing. They hate Kobe also because he played badly in the finals. They claim that these are things that Jordan would never do. They forget how well Kobe did with Smush Parker and Kwame Brown. Jordan NEVER had to play with these types of players.
