Have you checked Control Panel -> Board Settings?
I set mine to 40 posts/page, 40 topics/page.

There are alot of boards around, I have experienc ewith vBulletin, phpBB, IP.Board, probably plenty more out there, and I do kinda prefer IP.Board's to a certain extent as its currently 2 out of a few boards I frequent now(including TLN).
