Lakers coach Phil Jackson was critical of Vince Carter as the Nets struggled down the stretch of last season, and now the swingman has fired back.

"I care nothing about Phil Jackson and what he says. He's entitled to his opinion. It means nothing, it's just a coach feeling that he can say what he wants to say, and that's fine," Carter said. "His opinion means nothing to me. Maybe it made him feel good saying it, but that's it."

Carter averaged 21.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game for the 34-48 Nets.

"I've been in this league 10 years now, seen it all, been expected to do this, not expected to do that," Vince added. "But it's really about my team and what we need to do and it's about me focusing on what I need to do.

"I don't get into reading the papers and what people feel that they think I should do, that's just a matter of opinion. I sit down with the coaching staff and we talk about what they expect of me each and every year - and outside of that, it's just gibberish."

God: "Vince Carter is the reason why the Nets struggled last season."

Four months later...

VC: "God's opinion doesn't matter to me. It's just gibberish. Maybe God felt better after saying it, but it means nothing to me. I don't get into listening to God all that much and what he feels what he thinks I should do. I've been on this Earth for over 30 years now. I know what's expected of me."

Wouldn't be surprised.

Carter is just a flashy player that likes to make highlight plays. That's about it. I don't see any value in him team wise.

"I've been in this league 10 years now, seen it all..."

Except the championship, playing defense and showing concern over something besides your box score - yeah, you're right, you've seen it all.

Look he has a right to fire back, but he's always struck me as a heck of a cocky player for, when it comes down to it, over one dunk contest. In the grand scheme of things that means jack and he's but a blip of a player that can do things that plenty of other NBA guys can do.

Win something, play both ends of the floor maybe, Vince. Then maybe barbs won't be thrown your way.

Honestly, I don't think he really "fired back" at Phil. He didn't do anything really stupid and actually criticize Phil, he basically just said it's not going to bother him.

Yea, what else is he gonna say? He defending himself and said his team matters and an outsider's opinion doesn't, that's what you'd hope he'd say.

Sorta random to ask for a reaction to Phil's comments right now.

And I hope VC ain't done.... but he's done.

And this is being generous. The list can go on and on.

Vince was just defending himself. But just like he said about Jackson, whatever vince has to say does not matter.

He just sounds like a bitter player who's disgruntled when he continuously announces that he doesn't care. If you don't care, just say, "I don't care." and leave it at that.

"I don't care because I just don't think about what others in the Hall of Fame have to say about me. I could listen to them, but I don't because I'm da best." doesn't sound too compelling to your argument.

Anyone know what Phil specifically said?

"Vince Carter is no Kobe Bryant. He's no Michael Jordan. He just sucks. Quote me on this, VC is a poop."

It was something like that
