LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Dead rapper Tupac "2Pac" Shakur, the hip-hop icon who sold more records after he was murdered than during his brief career, is the most overrated person in music, according to music magazine Blender.

Shakur tops a tongue-in-cheek list that also includes "places, trends and other junk in rock," Blender said in its upcoming October issue, due on newsstands next week.

Other overrated finalists included the Grammys at No. 7, encores at No. 12, Pink Floyd at No. 14 and "the music you loved as a teenager" at No. 23.

Shakur, a "gangsta" rapper who showed his sensitive side in movies, was killed during an unsolved drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996. More than a dozen albums have been released in the ensuing years, and his image is almost as ubiquitous as that of Che Guevara or Bob Marley.

But while Shakur was a decent rapper with "insane rock-star charisma," according to Blender, he also "larded records with self-mythologizing, mediocre filler."

It's not the first time the pages of Blender have been used to bring down Shakur a few notches. In its June issue, rapper Lil Wayne listed him among his top five rappers, but then admitted: "I can't front: I was never into Pac."

As for the Grammys, the music industry's top awards, Blender said sitting through the ceremony was "like watching paint dry on Celine Dion's forehead."

And encores were notable chiefly for allowing bands to go backstage and do drugs while fans wonder if they should beat the rush to the parking lot, Blender said.

Veteran British rock band Pink Floyd, meanwhile, were responsible for "unbearable LSD slapstick" and "self-important bombast." And Blender warned that teenagers' brains "can inflate a great band to Christ-size proportions" and turn a bad song into the most meaningful.

Man what the? Overrated? 2Pac is what made me get into Rap and Hip-Hop and such. Even when I was younger my dad used to listen to him all the time and so did I. I think he's the best there is and not Lil Wayne and all these other guys you hear now. I rather listen to 2Pac's music than anything else and I can listen to it all day if I wanted to. :boxing:

LMAO at Blender. Blender is always dissing Pac because nobody cares about their garbage magazine. Blender is just trying to generate sales for their garbage magazine.

I can easily own this dumbass editor...

Blender magazine is the same magazine that voted Britney Spears the best singer of all time. :boxing:

Lol calm down dude, who the hell cares if they call Pac overrated?

There's always people trying to be different, these dudes just want their ish to sell. They're idiots.

True though that 2Pac wasn't the most intricately lyrical mofo (burrried in the cemetery like 100 times), but he's the only rapper where I can't even explain how good he is. I don't know if anyone else here feels like this, but I can listen to his songs forever, his voice draws me, his songs can have so much meaning, he's poetic unlike just about anyone right now, I can just feel the emotion in his stuff... I don't know does anyone else feel me?

If you think wayne is the greatest rapper alive, then yeah he's HELLA Overrated.

IMO,
pac is second to one {Nas}

I just think Nas has dropped so much material, and has been so consistent
+ illmatic[which to me is the GREATEST hiphop album of all time}

u gotta give him the top spot.

Blender is a joke regardless and this list is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. By getting mad, you played right into the magazine's hands.

Congratulations!

I've never been a big fan of 2Pac either. There are some of his songs I like a lot but most of it just sounds repetitive and just doesn't grab me. Overrated? Eh I could care less. It's all a matter of opinion in the end.

To each his own,
In traditional terms Nas is the better M.C.
Lyrically, Pac isn't on his plateau either.
14 years and still going, Nas can still drop a album and go #1.

Like I said 2pac Is my #2
but nobody started looking at him as the so called GOAT until he died.

Pac has more material, better material, better albums, better songs, more #1 albums/songs (100M albums sold), more classic material, ect. Pac never made a bad album unlike Nas.

Why did Nas get punk'd by Pac in his own city when Pac was outnumber by at least 20 people? Why did Nas back down from Pac when Biggie was begging Nas to make a diss track with him against Pac?

Your boy Nas only makes one good album every 10-11 years.

Nas doesn't have the complete package to be better than Pac... it's not always about lyrics.

it's not always about lyrics.

Sales don't mean ishh either.

hell 50 cent sells records, where does he rank?

Your boy Nas only makes one good album every 10-11 years.

Nas not consistent?

He's probably one of the most consistent rappers out there.

Nas doesn't have the complete package to be better than Pac

Let's see,
this again is my opinion so don't get upset.
Lyrically-Nas
his wordplay is magnificant, subject matter is very complex and comprehensive, yet relative, and he is the true definition of an MC.
Nas's flow was more smoother, Pac had the same simple flow over and over again.

Pac has more material, better material, better albums, better songs, more #1 albums/songs (100M albums sold), more classic material, ect. Pac never made a bad album unlike Nas.

How does pac have more material?
{The same song on different beats and different loops?}
Nas catalog shiiits on pacs discography

Illmatic is easily a top 3 album[most dudes consider #1 album of all time}, MATW(pacs greatest effort) is more like top 20. Plus, LP's like The Lost Tapes, It Was Written, and Stillmatic, solidfy Nas as a innovative artist.
The GOAT

anyways gotta finish my AP HW..
DEUCEEEEEEE
