I hope the mods fix this up. I also hope we don't have to reset and can see what the real number is.

8,000 total users, and that could've been 5,000 bots. Could've been 6,000. There are forums that reach 8,000 members with about 2,000 bots.
I can safely say that we've had 1,000 true guests online at one point, probably more, with an article that made Yahoo (I believe that was the site, don't remember). Then again, it could've been much more. Yahoo articles get drilled with visitors every 2-3 minutes, and our online users/guests lists log visitors for 15 minutes at a time.
So really...out of that 8,000...we could've found 6,000 true visitors, especially if links were posted to sites such as RealGM (which has 56,000 members and thousands of real guests) or other incredibly-large sites.
The server did crash quite a bit, and bots usually won't crash the server unless you reach a HUGE amount of them all at once, as in...tens of thousands.

Educated guess, because besides the anomaly of 8,000 (which is a totally fake number), I don't think I've ever seen 1,000 members online, and I don't know who has (you're sure it's happened)... but 2,000 seems like too much.Haha, how do you know it was less than 2,000?

Exactly, lol. No one is ever going to know the real number.Haha, how do you know it was less than 2,000?
Just keep the number and post in Chicano's thread in the off-topic forum.
He updates the thread.

We also had 907 members/guests in July because of the Artest rumors.
We had over 900 and 1,000 people online in July because of Ron Ron.Educated guess, because besides the anomaly of 8,000 (which is a totally fake number), I don't think I've ever seen 1,000 members online, and I don't know who has (you're sure it's happened)... but 2,000 seems like too much.

That's why we reset the current number then, cuz TLN is growing everyday so we can keep track of the real amount of visitors to the site from now onExactly, lol. No one is ever going to know the real number.

Hits add up to 63,521,727 for visitors and members, with only 3,682,935 of those coming from bots and worms.
It's possible that we did exceed 2,000 guests at one point.

What link could possibly bring that many members in when it's only 5:06AM on the East coast?
Look at the Lamar Odom news, when Fido announced Odom would re-sign it was all over the BIG forums, yet not even 1,000 came in. I was watching it the whole day. Usually the site goes down when there is about 800+ members, so we couldn't possibly have 8,000+, of actual numbers. The most accurate would be 907...we couldn't jump from that to 8,000

There are your numbers. That jump from June to July is way too significant. Those are visitors, by the way...not bots.

those hits add up to about 5 bots every 100 visitors.Well, unique visitors through site statistics show that there were 181,907 of them in the month of July 2009. That doesn't include bots.

Meaning, only 400 bots for 8,000 members. I don't think the server can hold 7,600 actual members.

Bots aren't dependent on member count. With a busy topic (or month in general), more bots could be expected to flood the forums...but not that much more. Not 6,000 more.those hits add up to about 5 bots every 100 visitors.

Either way, it's not my decision. I'll leave that to Jim, Kam, Chris and Shane.
