Sports Illustrated - Sports Illustrated has predicted that the Patriots and Eagles will do battle in the Super Bowl for the second time in five years, according to the September 1, 2008 edition.

S.I. has New England defeating Philadelphia 26-23 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay to win Super Bowl XLIII.

Senior writer Paul Zimmerman forecasted the 2008 season for the magazine in it's annual NFL Preview edition.

I have no problem with the Patriots but, the Eagles? I know they'll be improved but I just don't see it.

I don't know where SI gets their predictions from sometimes.

i'm an eagles fan and its funny while i dont agree with the prediction mainly because i hate people picking us it always ends wrong let me ask you this

how often do the consensus teams make the superbowl

Dallas has a choke artist at QB in Romo a guy who with the 2nd best WR in the NFL, the best TE in the NFL, arguably the best O-line, and arguably a top 5 defense couldn't get past the 1st round

ESPN picked the colts like 5 years straight and they won 1 superbowl

the patriots were supposed to dominate everyone in the playoffs they didn't and had phillip rivers been healthy and ladanian tomlinson the same i could argue they win that AFC title

to say the eagles have no chance is either bias or close minded we have by far the best secondary in the NFL and the 2nd best defensive end in the NFC. the 4th most winningest QB in the NFL currently playing behind favre, manning, brady.

not to mention a young fresh linebacking corp and a stout offensive line that contains the best guard in football in shawn andrews and two bookend tackles in runyan and thomas

not to mention the 2nd best running back in football period almost 2,200 yards from scrimmage

now i'm not saying they will be in the superbowl but just because they went against the consensus opinion doesn't mean they are lesser it simply means most NFL fans decide predictions soley on what the analysts say

i guarantee you not one of you picked the giants last year yet they held the trophy i dont make predictions but to say the eagles have no chance is ludicrous

they were 2 games from keeping the superbowl champs out of the playoffs if you watched the season the eagles lost by 3 to green bay and 2 of the touchdowns were off muffed punts. they were missing their starting left tackle and westbrook when they lost to the giants

say what you want but all four teams in the NFC east have as legit a shot as any to reach the superbowl

also what is the basis for the cowboys going to the superbowl which i assume is who most of you were expecting

they lost in the first round last year and basically will sport the exact same starting line-up as last year with some rookie additions who are not proven and pacman who while dynamic has been out of football for a year

Nahh, after last year I'm definitely not expecting anything. If I had to bet my life on it I'd pick the Cowboys but I wouldn't say it's a given.

I wouldn't say Romo is a choke artist, but he definitely hasn't performed the way he should in the playoffs. But before success, one must go through failure.

They are largely unchanged but with more experience, and if Pacman can play to the level he played at before the suspension, they will be dangerous.

i agree the cowboys are the most talented team in the NFC along with the vikings and packers but how often have the most talented teams not won a thing

i dont make predictions ever because i am very superstitious but to say the eagles haven't a chance in the world to make the superbowl is ludicrous

they have a proven playoff performer in donovan mcnabb and if you want to use stats though the eagles did not make the playoffs there is something most people dont know

they were 6th in the league offensively which is pretty damn good if you ask me

they were 10th in total defense which is not too bad if you ask me

they were 9th in scoring allowed which is excellent

now yes they didn't make the playoffs but they were ranked so highly with an unhealthy donovan mcnabb, no LJ smith, lots of missed brian dawkins, lito sheppard missed a couple games

to say the eagles have no chance to win the superbowl is ludicrous because they were top 10 in almost every category and have improved greatly

its not like i have superbowl aspirations hell i learned to kick any form of championship aspirations after the 05 season

though to this day i believe if roy williams doesn't horse collar TO the eagles win the superbowl that year

TO caught 11 passes in that game with no touchdowns

i honestly believe if the patriots couldn't cover him on one leg a healthy TO would have went for some ridiculous superbowl record like 14 catches and 3 touchdowns or something

god to this day roy williams is the player i hate the most in sports in general by far

i hope that guy breaks his leg nothing too serious but a break no tears just clean break.

I feel you man, that was an amazing performance by T.O., and it was wrong of Roy to tackle him like that.

He was injured in last year's playoff game too, so I feel your pain.

And I agree, if an injured T.O. pulled off that performance, one could only imagine what a healthy T.O. would have done.

Damn im an Eagles fan and i hope this comes true. Im not so sure it will do. D mcnabb is playing well but not his superbowl well shape. Hope for the best though. Their defense is still a beast though.
