Does anyone know where I can get a good portable external for fairly cheap? Does anyone have one for sale?
I'm leaning towards an iomega... My cousin has one and it's great, fast, and looks cool.

Please help me out!

Dude

try LaCie.......... Amazon has it 250- 1TB. Cost a little more but it comes with 4-5 USB cords which allows for regular to super high speed transfers & downloads. Stays cool also. Looks cool

Someone do a raincheck for me on this.

Max size so far:
2.5" - 320gb/500gb? Thought it wouldn't go past 320.
3.5" - 1TB/1.5TB/2TB? 2TB is huge imo.

/facepalm

Nevermind. I'm trying to make things clearer for ppl that seems to be confused on the sizes with the physical size of the external drive.

I didn't want to start a new topic...

Well I just got my WD External and I was wondering if I transferred all my music and pictures and take them off my internal, would I be able to just keep it plugged in and listen to music quickly?

Best not to skimp on an external if you're using it for things you care about.

You get what you pay for.

I've never experienced any problems with WD. My uncle uses them for his company and he has no problems with them. So far I haven't put anything on it, just ran Time Machine once...

Totally with you there though.

I buy WD drives exclusively, as well as my work, and they run like champs. They're quiet, cool and last a damn long time.

So should I put all my music on it? And when I plug it in, would I still be able to listen to iTunes when the songs are all on my External?

I run 4 TB drives filled with movies, tv and music on it and have no problem (knock on wood).

I just drag songs into iTunes as I please - everything works great!

You can plug it in and play.

Double click or drag the files you want to play for iTunes to grab it. Its no big deal. You can even run playlists off of it if you have to. Its seriously easy stuff.

Still iffy on it. Just plug it in, then drag into my computer's iTunes folder and play?

Is there a way to have just downloaded music go directly to my External and is there a way to connect iTunes to it so it just plays the music on it or what?

You can download anything to any destination you choose as long as its connected to and recognized by your computer.

Yeah, I don't get what the hitch is. You have a track, you double click or drag it to play the thing - that's about it.

There's nothing to be "iffy" about.

iTunes treats a file on an external the same way it treats a file on your internal - no difference.

In order to play my music, I have to drag it back onto my Mac?

Its a file - you play it just like you'd play a file that's on your internal.

You're making a bigger deal out of this then it is.
