I got Rock Band and have downloaded a buncha songs and love how that works, but I don't know how big a difference each game is. I say just look at the song lists and what songs they have for download online and choose like that, the games should be similar enough. The next GH songlist I like a lot so I might get that if it works with my RB instruments.

Guitar Hero first overall, Rock Band first with the whole band aspect.

Exactly, then after rockband came out GH released a band set of their own

OP you should add a poll for this.

Rock Band by far.

This is coming from someone who has spent time with both... My GF owns GH: World Tour and she came over and played RB2, and now she wants to get it. She enjoyed it so much more. RB2 easily.

Note charting, in general, is better on Rock Band because the developers [Harmonix] are actual musicians who focus on musician games while GH is developed by the guys who did Tony Hawk. May seem like something small, but to me the charting in RB2 is way more natural.

Yea, when in doubt, go with Harmonix for the music genre.

i own and regularly play (and enjoy) both, but Rock Band definitely gets the nod. Their commitment with releasing DLC every week while Activision whores the [expletive] out of Guitar Hero franchise speaks volumes. I generally enjoy the cleaner look and charting of RB more as well. I still love me some Guitar Hero though (Hendrix, Tool, etc etc).
"I saw a lady on T.V. She was born without arms. Literally, she was born with her hands attached to her shoulders... and that was sad, but then they said, "Lola does not know the meaning of the word 'can't.'" And that to me was kinda worse... in a way... ya know? Not only does she not have arms, but she doesn't understand simple contractions. It's very simple Lola, you just take two words, you put them together, then you take out the middle letters, you put a comma in there and you raise it up!" -Mitch Hedberg
