Yes, I'm not saying the Lakers would lose to a foreign team but untill the Lakers play whoever the best foreign team is, there's no right to call them World Champions.

The best Euro teams would be in the playoffs for sure anyway...

Lemme guess you live in Europe??

Oh, and name me one player who has stayed in a European/Asian/African league and puts up monster stats. I'll wait...

the only one that jumps out is theo papaloukas... and only for his percentages. he could play in the NBA.. in fact, the Lakers showed interest a few years back, but he hates flying or something...

NBA (United States) > Spanish League (Spain) > English League (England). Oh wait, England doesn't even have a league.

You're coming off kind of bitter to most of us here man no offense and it just doesn't make sense as a Lakers fan. I don't get it.

Calling the NBA champions the World Champions is an insult to the Greek, Spanish and Russian leagues.

If someone wins the English Premier League, or the La Liga, Italian Serie A ect, they don't go calling themselves "World Champions" because in fact they are only champions inside their own country. Even if they win the Champions League, they don't go around saying "World Champions" because they are only Champions in their continent.

anyway, it's meant to be symbolic. it's not a literal world championship.
nor is the world series.
the world wars weren't fought globally, either.

You can't be serious. You really think there's a team out there that could handle the Lakers?

   If so.

Oh, and name me one player who has stayed in a European/Asian/African league and puts up monster stats. I'll wait...

Did I ever say that? Of course the Lakers would beat whoever the best Euro team is, but untill that happens there is no basis to call the NBA Champions "World Champions".

Argentina won the last Basketball Olympics, so the USA does not always win.

Either you don't seem to get the point or you just can't seem to face the reality/truth and are in denial or something.

Most of the best international players out there who want to continue to be the best and face the best competition, come here to the NBA to do so because those are the TRUE competitors and stars that want to perform at the highest level of difficulty. Non-international aside, we already have the best basketball players in the world born in this country. So if you add that up plus with us having the best international talent available, majority of it, that makes our league rightfully so, the best in the world and therefore we have the right to call the champions of our game and league world champions. Other leagues around the world DON'T because they can't say the same nor make the same arguments that go for us.

an exhibition for the Lakers. FC showed all intentions of winning that game... and didn't.

The very best in the world play in the NBA, it's fair to call the champions in a league with the best players in the world, World Champions.

Its very simple to most of us.

The NBA has the best competition in the world. That's widely acknowledged globally. Can you name any international teams who you realistically think can take down any of the top tier NBA teams?

I doubt the Lakers will turn down if a team out there decides to challenge them.

As I said, the USA doesn't always win in the International tournamensts. Going by the last Olympics, Argentina has the best home grown talent in the world. Although the stars of that team DO play in the NBA, the players that make it click play in Europe and Argentina.

Spain won the last FIBA World Championship as well.

I'm not saying the NBA isn't the best league in the world, because that would be quite dumb. But untill the Lakers beat the best foreign side, no one has the right to call them world champions.
