mike (boston): Bill, I'm pretty bummed out about the Celtics' prospects in the future. The Big three are aging quickly and they have not cap flexibility to add any good young pieces going forward. I feel like we're looking at another 22 year drought. Help...what would you do if you were Danny Ainge?

SportsNation Bill Simmons: (1:14 PM ET ) They're fine. They were worn down - they played 200-plus games (including 40 playoff games) in the span of 19 months and didn't have KG. Perk and Rondo will be a year better, KG will be back, they have 6 mill of expiring conttracts to deal (Scal + Tony) and they can use some or all of the FA midlevel this summer on a swingman ... I'd love to see them make a run at Ariza. I don't think LA can afford him AND Odom.

Look at the excuses for the Celtics from this tool.

Champe (Houston): Why won't anyone admit that the Lakers are simply not much of a team? Kobe is very, very good, but the rest of their lineup is made up of a bad combination of soft post players (Gasol), bad shooters (Fisher, Walton, Vucijisijcjjch), perennial underachivers (Odom, Bynum, Ariza), and bit part guards with no more upside than they show (Brown and Farmar), all led by the least inspiring superstar in NBA history. It has all the makings of another flameout. Personally I hope the Magic play the Nuggets in the Finals, as just revenge on the NBA for joey Crawford's continued employment and assignment to all must-win Lakers' games.

Bill Simmons: (12:46 PM ET ) I have been saying that for 2 months now. What we're watching this spring is basically the 2006 Lakers, only with Gasol replacing Chris Mihm, Kobe being 15% worse, Bynum being 20% better and Ariza being a slight improvement over Ariza. It's a limited team that lacks toughness and can be beaten. I actually think Gasol is the key to their title hopes and not Kobe - he can dominate this Denver series if he wants, and in the next round, he's a brutal matchup for Ilguaskas who just isn't quick enough to keep him away from the rim.

And that's what he said about Ariza earlier. Ariza wasn't even with the Lakers in 2006. By the end of the chat, he wants him wearing green.

Ariza is from L.A too right? No way he leaves us!! Hes ours!!
QUOTE
Also, remember this when the TNT guys tell you that Andrew Bynum is "injury prone" -- it's because Kobe Bryant fell on his leg. He's injury prone because someone fell on his leg. Put that in your pipe when one of them says something along the lines of "I just don't know if they can rely on him." Can they rely on Kobe to not fall down and tumble into his leg, again?

Ariza hates the Celtics right? Wasn't he quoted saying something like that?

He spent an entire chat only taking Lakers questions about A) the calls the Lakers got in the last 5 minutes, or
B. ) the Rockets series.

He's dodging anything that happened in the first 3.5 quarters, and he also says that the game was over when Chauncy hit that three, so the missed call doesn't matter.

I guess the game was over when Bird stole the inbounds pass and hit DJ for the game winner back in '87, as well.

Why would Ariza go to puke green land just to sit on the bench behind PP? Screw that. It's possible Trevor leaves, but I doubt it would be to a situation where he doesn't have a chance to start.

In all likelihood though, Trevor's a Laker for a long time to come.

Ariza would rather break his foot all the way through than ever be a Celtic.

i will make a guarantee right now that ariza will be our #1 priority

hes only 22 years old and is our primary defender and a good shooter who has improved every year in the league

given the choice the lakers would resign ariza over lamar

and I think Lamar feels less of a need to "cash in" than Ariza might.

Simmons seems to be convinced that the Radmanovic trade was due to some kind of economic problems the Lakers were having. From a financial perspective, I think it was more of an attempt to create flexibility to sign Lamar and Ariza, and reduce luxury tax implications.

There is also the chance (however slight it may be) that Kobe may take a reduction in salary to help facilitate these other signings.

Trevor's a LA guy. The move we made this year though trade show that Mitch intends to pursue our players once the seasons up.

The Lakers can afford both. The Lakers will be able to offer Ariza more money, a starting role and a long term deal - 3 things the Celtics cannot do.

Just another pipe dream from a quickly coming to reality Boston fan.

Ariza and Odom will stay.

I love that not only does he hate the Celtics, he actually hates Boston in general it would seem. Red Sox, Pats, Bruins, Celtics... they can all suck it.
