Manny Ramirez has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and will be suspended 50 games starting today, The Times has learned.

The test result and suspension is expected to be announced later today.

Absolutely shocking news. This guy I follow on twitter posted "Manny is suspended" and I kind of laughed thinking it was a joke, but I quickly searched the news and sure enough, it's real. I can't believe it, it's like a bad dream and I can't wake up....

terrible news for baseball in general, and the dodgers who were finally looking like a respectable team...i'm not a dodger fan, but still, that sucks

Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me," Ramirez said. "Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now

Ya, it's interesting because it sounds like it's not even a HGH/Steroid thing, he just got unlucky taking something that was prescribed to him, that was also unknowingly banned by the league.

What a tard. There's a very detailed list of everything they test for. Whether his doctor gave it to him or not, this should have never happened. Anyword on who they are gonna throw in left? Pierre?

I wouldn't be surprised if Pierre is the new starter, but they also called up their top-prospect Xavier Paul so he's a possible starter.

LOS ANGELES €“ A source close to Manny Ramirez said Thursday that the illegal substance for which the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger tested positive was not €œan agent customarily used for performance enhancing.€

At least not on the baseball diamond. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the substance is supposed to boost sex drive. It is not Viagra, but a substance that treats the cause rather providing a temporary boost in sexual performance, the source said.

No surprise? Why?

Maybe it's just me, but I've always felt that Manny is one of those guys who is all-natural and has become a great player by working his [expletive] off. What's also interesting is there hasn't been anything final or set on the whole situation. Now they're saying he didn't fail a drug test, it was just a violation of the policy.

Also, after reading more news, the substance he took was called HCG.

A short description of the drug: Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, prescribed to stimulate female fertility & testosterone production in men & to treat boy's delayed puberty.

It's on the banned substance list but it's definitely strange that it would be on there.

He did not take steroids or Hgh. He was just giving an illegal drug by this dumb doctor.

But hey the way were playing we dont really need manny. Its also gonna help us because that way when he comes back he is gonna be fresh and not worn out.But this 50 days are gonna be painful

He actually gave some of our young guys confidence in hitting like Matt Kemp,Andre etheir,martin. Made the lineup dangerous, and made the dodgers locker room more energetic

I believe that Manny didn't take drugs, but I do believe that he took a drug thats like viagra
