Is Phil Jackson worth $12 million?

I heard Phil Jackson doesn't practice defense.
So, let's put things in perspective.
In 2006, they could have advanced past the first round if not for a defensive lapse that left Tiiiiiiiiiiim Thomas wide-open for a trey that ultimately devastated their chances.
In 2007, the Lakers allowed 103 PPG, my goodness!
In 2008, lack of toughness still killed them.
Even with defensive standouts Bynum and Ariza back, if it won't start with your coach, your team still would allow 100+ points a game and your powerful triangle offense outmatched by a grossly intimidating defense.
Phil should begin emphasizing it. Put a premium on defense.
That's when he's truly worth the penny.

It's not his fault the players can't get the job done.

spoken wisely, JD.I'm not the one paying him (and neither are you). His pay doesn't have any impact on the salary cap.
Therefore... I couldn't care less how much he's being paid.

What's your take?

Phil Jackson is already worth every dollar of the $12 million he earns. Why would Phil Jackson need to practice defense? Aren't the players supposed to defend during games? In any case, defense is all a matter of effort on part of the player. You can try and teach a player how to play defense, but unless they have it in them to focus on the defensive end, there's no use. Phil has already won 9 rings as a coach, I have complete faith in his abilities.
With Bynum and Ariza back with the Lakers (healthy of course), the Lakers' defense will improve greatly and they'll probably be back among the top in the league as they were at one point during the season:
