ABC saw mixed results for coverage of the opening weekend of the 2009 NBA Playoffs.

Game 1 between the Pistons and Cavaliers drew a 2.7 overnight rating on ABC Saturday afternoon, down 27% from a 3.7 for Suns/Spurs Game 1 in the same timeslot last year. The 2.7 is also off 4% from a 2.8 for Heat/Bulls Game 1 in '07, but matches a 2.7 for Wizards/Cavaliers in '06.

Meanwhile, Sunday's Game 1 between the Jazz and Lakers drew a 4.0 overnight rating, up 3% from a 3.9 for Nuggets/Lakers in the same time slot last year, and the highest overnight for an opening weekend NBA Playoff game since '03.

Who the hell would want to watch Detroit suck against Cleveland? Detroit plays the most boring basketball in the NBA (Spurs have Tony Parker which adds some flavor), and the Cavs are, in my opinion, also quite boring to watch. Why couldn't they have shown the Celtics/Bulls game instead of the Cavs/Pistons on Saturday? Anything to promote their "King".

Lebron is entertaining to watch in person; but, the Cavs are very boring to watch on TV.

Plus, people aren't always ready to watch the NBA on Saturday afternoon; whereas, people are used to looking for Lakers games on Sunday afternoon.

No one wants to watch the Pistons suck against the Cavs. Lakers rating was pretty impressive.

Agreed. As great as bron is I dont find a huge entertainment factor to his game and true about Saturday.
Kobe's official reign of terror is about to get its jump off on.

Not too surprising. Cle/Det is the most boring series right now. Detroit sucks.

UKUGA,

I agree but thats not the point.

Put the Lakers game on at 3am Wednesday morning and it would still best the CLE/DET game in ratings.

People really like the Lakers. CLE is an upstart team with a propaganda machine trying to convince everyone that they are heir to the Laker throne...but they aren't.
