Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson will remain in Los Angeles instead of accompanying the team on its road trip to Portland, due to pain and swelling in his lower right leg caused by plantar fasciitis, it was announced today.

The Lakers will fly to Portland following tonight’s game against the Denver Nuggets, and will play the Trail Blazers in Portland tomorrow night. The team will be coached by assistant coach Kurt Rambis in Jackson’s absence.

Jackson missed the Lakers’ first preseason game back on October 7 in Anaheim versus the Utah Jazz. He will rejoin the team for Saturday’s practice and is not expected to miss any additional games.

Damn we need Phil for this game, but if we win you can expect the Lakers moral to be up high and even higher after this game if we win.

Kobe's going to have to be a strong leader and make good decisions this game then, because Phil usually keeps him in check when Kobe's taking too many shots.

QUOTE
Also, remember this when the TNT guys tell you that Andrew Bynum is "injury prone" -- it's because Kobe Bryant fell on his leg. He's injury prone because someone fell on his leg. Put that in your pipe when one of them says something along the lines of "I just don't know if they can rely on him." Can they rely on Kobe to not fall down and tumble into his leg, again?

Hahaha, I know you're obviously joking, but in seriousness, I can't see Phil doing something like that EVER in life.

I expect the Lakers to be independent for this game, at least, they been through that in Portland, they wouldn't want to succumb yet again.
