I saw that article about Phil saying the lakers are saving for the playoffs and even though it was confusing me, it made sense. I have been hoping that the lakers have been keeping some things in their pockets to use come playoffs and i remember at the beginning of the season when kobe hinted that he would go through the season performing at about 80 percent and not full-force.

So is it clear or am I just reaching here when I say kobe is saving his best game for the playoffs. I mean, how many times during a game do we see kobe drive to the basket anymore? some would say he cant do what he used to, but he did it last season and he does it if he really needs to. I think he is just saving his dribble penetration for when it counts and when teams have forgotten about it. I know some of you have expressed the same.
BOSTON SUCKS!!!

I hope that's the case. I agree though that this team is definitely holding back, and seems to really only try on defense when they feel they need to prove something, such as the Cavaliers and Celtics series.

We're 'making it seem' like we stink on defense so that we can surprise everyone in the playoffs. Haha.

I know for sure Sasha isn't holding anything back. (I had to throw that out there)

he's kobe bryant, i don't think he's holding much if anything back...he's just missing shots, he'll be fine...these patches never last all that long for him

Is holding back even in Kobe's Resume. I could careless if I was an undefeated team and clinched HCA, I would play my heart out still. Kobe probably does too.

Yes Kobe has said he isn't going all out during the regular season (something like how he's only in 3rd gear). He's just pacing himself because it's a long season. He is human after all (surprised, yea?). But he's also just had flat out bad games. He's not doing it because he's trying to fool his opponents or pull the wool over their eyes. Guys in the NBA aren't [all] stupid. They know what he's capable of. He's doing it because it's the smart thing to do.

well considering kobe looked to be worn out in the finals last season i wouldn't be suprised though playing gasol 40 minutes a game doesn't follow this theory

I'll say this, remember how kobe's play improved in the olympics after pool play, when it got to their versions of the Playoffs, he stepped up, then in the Medal game. he knows about pacing himself for big games, but as bad as Kobe has played offensively, his defense has been on point
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers
