They're going to keep Dunleavy as coach but bring in Jerry West as the GM?

http://www.hoopsworl...?story_id=12015

We've been hearing for quite some time that despite all the struggles in Los Angeles Mike Dunleavy's job as Clippers head coach and general manager were safe. Turns out we may have been only half right.

Marc Spears of the Boston Globe is reporting that several informed people across the league believe Dunleavy will be relieved of his GM duties at the end of the season. It is likely he maintains his role as head coach, but apparently the organization believes there are other people out there that can piece together a more effective, cohesive roster.

The biggest name being whispered as a potential replacement is former Lakers and Grizzlies GM Jerry West. The other name mentioned is former HEAT GM Randy Pfund. Regardless of who may be brought in, it would appear that the real issue is not the roster€”which is full to the brim with talent€”but how that talent is coached. One thing is for certain though: the Clippers need to make some sort of change, and hopefully switching out general managers is enough to turn things around.

Now is it just me or did Mike put together a very effective roster? We just need another coach for the Clippers to start winning CONSISTENTLY.

That team will play twice as well without a coach.

SERIOUSLY! This is the stupidest thing Donald Sterling could do (although, bringing Jerry West brings credibility to this franchise- finally- and free agents will want to come play here with Jerry West as GM). BUT- our problems are COACHING not GM!! Wow man, when will someone take Donald Sterling's "stupid glasses" off.. He's in his own world and can't realize what the real problem is.

Either that or he does not want to get rid of Dunleavy as a coach because his contract is way too expensive to pay for JUST a GM... I agree with Kam, every time the Clippers have been doing well, it's been free flowing offense. For example the game against the Cavs, when they were up by 19. They were doing great with no coaching, and when the playcalling came in, they lost the lead and the game.

Hopefully though, if we do bring in a new GM, the first day they're in office they'll fire Dunleavy.

As a coach or GM, just get rid of Dunleavy, it is so simple...

The Clipps have so much potential but Coach Dunleavey is one horrible coach...they need to be running up and down, Phx style.

Dunleavy will never be fired, Sterling doesn't want to pay for somebody else.

I'd plow Vanessa Bryant.

TCI, honestly, how can you be so committed to a franchise that isn't committed to you... at all?

I mean, they don't give a damn about winning.

Though if he does, damn. I have full faith in Mr. West. Props to the Clips if they nab him.

Management and coaching are both problems.

This team as constructed won't work and Dunleavy can neither coach what he's cobbled together or b e allowed to take no credit for putting together this mess of a team. Just because the team may look decent on paper doesn't mean he's put together a team that can play. I've been saying it from day one - this team is flawed and Dunleavy is to blame.

The ultimate goal should be to get rid of Dunleavy on both fronts.

At least kicking him out of the upper office is a start. Firing him as a coach has gotten a lot easier.

I fail to comprehend why everyone wouldn';t support this move. The Clippers owner Sterling pulled his head out a touch. Now its time to completely see the liught and dump Dunleavy outright.

Step one (out of 100) in the right direction for the Clipeprs.

So, LD2k, you'd rather I be a bandwagon fan, and just jump off the ship whenever things go bad? What does that remind you of? COUGHCELTICSFANSCOUGH. Come on dude, winning isn't everything. This season, as bad as the games have been, I've watched Eric Gordon develop, goofy DeAndre Jordan find his way into the NBA, and when we DO win it feels really special. That's all I can ask for.. and once they become winners (in my opinion, when they get rid of Dunleavy) No one can say ANYTHING to me, because I've been there. That's what a true fan is. I know many die hard Clipper fans right now- we watch and support the TEAM.

And by the way, fido how do you know this team is not constructed well? Cause they don't wear yellow and purple and have Kobe in there? We can never tell for sure because they haven't played under a good coach. These guys do NOT want to play under Dunleavy and it's very obvious.. A source close to me tells me that's why they haven't been hustling, they also don't want to run the plays and they play very unmotivated.

Back to the Jerry West topic, it would be SO sick to have the logo man of the NBA being the GM of the Clippers. It's a good time to do so because 2010 free agents will much rather listen to a phone call from Jerry West rather than from Dunleavy. I do believe Dunleavy did a good job getting talent, even finding talent (i.e Mardy Collins, Fred Jones, Steve Novak- people either rotting on the bench or not even on a team) however, if he was downgraded to JUST GM, don't you think he would want to take the team down so that the new coach will be blamed instead of him? I can just imagine it now-

"See guys? It wasn't my fault... Even Avery Johnson is having trouble coaching this team!"

"But Mr. Dunleavy.. You traded Eric Gordon for Sasha Vujacic... And got rid of 3 of our starters.."

"It doesn't matter. He should be able to coach no matter what"

So I don't know. I also support a fresh start.. Jerry West would be nice but he's out of Sterling's checkbook limit I think. All I know is, if we do get Jerry West, his first move better be to fire Dunleavy. Jerry West does NOT like to lose.

i think he meant it more of a "hell no dont come to my town" type thing.

but why should the clippers move? they have a good thing happening in LA, fans who do love them and a good arena to play in.

if the clippers did move it would be to the OC, and even then they wouldnt move.
