Posted on M2 as well just now.

http://www.82games.c...809/QTR4S11.HTM

I saw this and was like, duh, Kobe rules the 4th qtr. We have the obvious top 3 as Kobe-Lebron-Wade, then super-clutch Granger. Kobe is up on Wade by .3pts, 7.8 to 7.5. I watch every Lakers game, so I thought... hmmm, Kobe always comes in like halfway through the 4th cuz we rule, while I would guess Wade plays the whole 4th always to try to win the game.

You can see this trend when looking at the minutes played, so here I'm gonna look at the points per 48min, of 4th qtr scoring.

Since it shows points per 4th qtr, and games played, and there's only one fourth qtr per game, I'm using the formula of:
pp4th * games played (aka 4ths played) / total minutes * 48min
Get it?

We find, in 4th qtr scoring:
Kobe - 49.2pp48
Lebron - 41.5pp38
Wade - 40.8pp48

Kobe is the leader by far. That's a fact. You guys can look at ast/reb/wins/etc, but all I wanted to say is that Kobe is the best 4th qtr SCORER, and the per qtr stats don't do him justice cuz he sits out so much cuz of our great team.

Very interesting, great job using your head and using a mathematical approach to find out the truth.
Truth is, kobe is the best 4th quarter scorer.. By a mile and you just proved it.

Great find :)

Instead of "/ total minutes * 48min" it should be "/ total 4th quarter minutes * 12min"

^I think that's what he meant by "total minutes", but yea 12 probably gives a better picture since it is only one quarter...

Yea makes a lot of sense guys, I always just use 48 for a game's worth to show how it would look at this deadly level for a full game.

Nothing dividing by 4 won't fix!

Kobe - 12.3pp12
Lebron - 10.4pp12
Wade - 10.2pp12

No, no. Since you're talking about 4th quarter performance, you must only take into account minutes played in the 4th quarter, not total minutes. One player could have better 4th quarter stats because he plays less minutes in other quarters and more in the 4th.

The only problem is that I don't know where to find the ammount of 4th quarter minutes played by a player :P.

The link is only showing 4th qtr stats, so the total minutes there = total 4th qtr minutes. 411 in 54 games is not total minutes through all qtrs lol. It equals 7.6minutes per 4th qtr.

I dont think you can judge who is the best at something looking purely at stats.. there is much more that goes into it, however yes, kobe is definitely the best closer.

I honestly clicked into this thread thinking it was gonna' be another sarcastic one from you actually meaning he's not the best 4th quarter scorer, somewhat similar to the one you made not too far back about LeBron being a better shooter than Kobe or something like that.

Haha that was intentional, but nah I'm serious this time.

And I'm not making a statement on who is the best player in the 4th or anything, just pointing out that Kobe is statistically the best scorer. And I also think he's the best 4th qtr player.
