As dominant as the Lakers have looked at times this season, they are not necessarily a lock to reach the NBA Finals again. A return trip hinges on several factors that need to go right for the Lakers to that to happen, starting with Andrew Bynum's return to the lineup.

The Lakers need more than that, however, if they hope to dislodge the Boston Celtics as the reigning NBA champions. A rejuvenated bench, a focused Lamar Odom and no return trips to Portland are among those items

Play some defense should be at the top of the list...and actually, it should be the only thing on the list.

Once Sasha comes out of his slump, the bench will be right back to where it was last year. That's about all that's missing there.

LO? Take what you can get.

Bynum's return will be shaky and rust-filled.

Lakers playing a little defense will assure them a return trip to the Finals. Lakers playing 2-3 games of tough defense in the Finals will all but assure they win there too.

our best shot is to put bynum on the bench with the second unit which has a lot of floor spacers

and basically tell them to shove the ball inside to him and play inside out

sasha, jordan, powell, ariza would all benefit from this

run our 2nd unit 100% through bynum and have him feast on 2nd string centers

and then have our 1st unit simply do what they did last season

thats what would make the difference because our 2nd unit with bynum being the focus would be as good as indianas 1st unit
