Apart from the obvious, I am speaking of contracts.
How will Kobe react if we lose in the WCF's or NBA finals?
If we win, I am sure lamar, trevor and jordan will be more keen to take a pay cut to keep our hopes of a dynasty alive. I think that this year we must win. any thoughts?

It's a must-win season, at all costs. I don't know how else to break it down for people.

Of course it is a must win. Every season is a must win.

But no, I don't think Kobe will go anywhere even if we lose. He will remain a Laker his whole career. This team is built to contend for years and he realizes that.. The only teams that could afford to take him would be Kobe with a bunch of scrubs. He wants another ring and this team is his best hope right now.

What I really mean is that if we win, the chances Lamar, Trevor and Jordan stay. And that is most likely at a lower cost, possibly 2 million each year. Since they will want to stay part of a winning and chamionship club. But if we don't win they will ask for more.

^If we lose they'll ask for more? Their value will be much higher if we win, especially if they play a key part in winning. Winning is great, but the NBA is a business. Young guys like Ariza aren't going to take a huge paycut just because we win a championship. Would you give up 2 million dollars? Ariza wouldn't either.

Basically this thread comes down to whether or not we will keep Ariza and Odom (Farmar's contract doesn't even expire so I don't know why you bring him up), and there's already several threads on this topic.

Kobe is a Laker for Life. Especially @ 30 years old. He will have 4 tittles in purple and gold uniform this summer. That's how you keep a love between him and the Lakers.

i hate that comparison....just b/c the guys are similar in various ways, why do people think their careers should mirror each others
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers
