Ok Laker fans i have been complaining all year about the lakers defense. I have read people saying things like its only one game or its early in the season you know stuff like that. However 20 games left and we give up 100PTS EVERY GAME. Please dont use the Bynum excuse. We still gave up that many pts when he was in the line up as well. This team needs to step it up quickly on the defensive end or we will not be holding larry O'brien at the end of June

80-91 Good defense
92-95 (Ok) Solid defense
99+ Bad defense
What do you guys consider good defense give me the pts and fg% of the opposition
I like 85-90pts on 40% shooting or less

i'll be worried if come playoffs we are still playing this defense

even boston is playing crap defense right now

the lakers and boston have different goals than the rest of the league they know they have to somewhat conserve whatever energy they can so that come late may and june their teams are still playing

say what you want but teams CAN turn it on and if/when the lakers hopefully get bynum back i can see them seriously locking up defensively so they can start sweeping teams in the playoffs and getting their rest that way rather than on the court for 3 quarters

perhaps but its good to get habits now rather than in the playoffs thats what i am saying

Lemme get a stat of when we play playoff teams and how much we allow.

well i just calced up the games against playoff teams, i also put in phoenix and new jersey. we give up 93.6 a game against playoff teams which i think is decent. and if you want i can calc the points given up against the elite teams.
now imma try to find the % we allow.
well i can't find a stat for % allowed against playoff teams but we allow 44.93% which is 6th in the league which isn't bad if you add in our #1 offense we should be good.

What people don't understand is that it's hard not to give up 100 when we score so much. You really expect us to win by 10+ points per game each time?

Say we score 125, it's unlikely we're going to keep the other team from scoring over 100. Since we scored so high, the other team has a lot more possessions to score as well. Just how the game flows. If we were a low scoring team, then other teams going over 100 would be less likely.

I hate using that 100+ points as a gauge on defense.

Yea you would have to do it on a per 100 possessions (or something similar) basis instead of just looking at raw total points and all that

Not sure how we can conserve energy AND try to get home court through out the playoffs....
Early in the season, we were play rough, tough, hard defense. Now its in patchs. And we still can't defend the pick and roll. Utah & SA will run that play all game long against us. We should have learned what defense can do for & against you.

They need to improve defensively if the want the title. I have never seen a great offensive team that didn't play defense very well win a title.

If 80 points is good defense, then what do you consider great defense?
