Kevin Durant said he grew up admiring Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant’s basketball abilities. But the Thunder forward was taken aback when Bryant offered to help him in any way he could when Durant went to USA Basketball camp soon after he was drafted in 2007.

"He was the first guy to say something to me,” Durant said. "He kind of took me under his wing a little bit. I can’t thank him enough for that. It was just fun being around him.”

Durant just didn’t have the courage to take Bryant up on his offer and ask the star guard for advice.

"I was a little nervous,” Durant said. "It was Kobe Bryant, and I was a young rookie. I just couldn’t talk to him.”

Very cool to see that Kobe would do that, and by the same token, very cool to see Durant look up to him so much.

On ESPN first take, they asked him who would win one on one between him and Beaseley and he said a tie. Then asked who would win one on one against Melo, and he said Melo would win him.

For the record, I'll take Durant over both of them 100 times out of 100.

I think Kevin Durant would murder Melo and Beaseley right now!!!

Well the matchup against Melo would be close.

Other than that cool story about Kobe taking Durant under his wing .

Funny how things work becuase Durant will be doing Kobe like things for many years to come

Haha I'd probably be nervous too. Glad to see that Kobe took him under his wing. He has a bright future ahead of him.

When he's asked why Kobe doesn't tweet, @thugraider37 said he offers this reply: "Does God tweet?"

Do you guys not remember how much Kobe loved him during that summer of 2007? He was madly in love.

Hmmm this is one of the things Kobe does best. Anddd now that I think about it, if I were to switch Kobe for a different player (grrrr) it would probably be Durant now. Saw the way he played last night and he played quite well.

Kobe is an evil genius.

He wasn't offering Durant help. He was sizing him up.

Similar to the big dude in jail telling you he runs the show your very first meal in the mess hall.

He did the same with O.J. Mayo. He wants to get in those guys heads right from the start

He's a class act with a ton of upside and potential...and Kobe obviously saw that in him.
Wouldn't that be great to have a guy like him after Kobe is gone? Maybe even while hes still here...

WITNESS Kobe.

I, too, hope Durant becomes the Lakers next superstar.

I hear people say Mayo, which may be fine, especially if Bynum continues to develop; however, I'd prefer Durant.

I like him better than LBJ.

IMO, he has the makings of a much smoother offensive player than Lebron. His fg% and ft% at such a young age are indicative of this.

I think he is going to be the NBA's next big-time, "prolific" scorer, a la Kobe.

We just need to get him out of the dust bowl.

Once Durant gets some muscle on those bones, he will be one of the top players in the NBA. I honestly believe we will see a Lebron-Durant rivalry in the coming years.

Kobe takes all the new stars under his wing .
If he meets them in a Team USA camp or they just plain out study his footage.
High Scholastic Value !!!
