SINGAPORE - The International Olympic Committee delivered a shocking message to baseball and softball on Friday: Yer out!

The two sports were kicked out of the Olympics, unwanted by international sports officials who felt they were too American for the world sports stage.

The decision, made during a secret vote in Singapore, is effective for the 2012 London Games, meaning the two sports will have a final fling at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The sports, the first eliminated since polo in 1936, are eligible to reapply for the 2016 Games....

More

US softball just dominating only allowing one run at the 2004 Olympics. Hope to see it back even though I don't watch the sport alot.

Sucks.

The sports are too American, yet, in baseball, the US just got beat by Korea this morning and the last gold medalist was one of the most un-American nations in the world; Cuba.

I know the host nation can choose certain sports and London didn't want baseball or softball in 2012, but for them to be completely hacked out is BS.

Chicago and Tokyo are among the leaders for the 2016 bid, so I think they shouldn't have a problem getting reinstatement.

I don't mind them taking out baseball and softball, but at least have a good reason for it! Just because one country dominates a sport doesn't mean that it should be removed in order to promote "fairness" in the Olympics.

Funny how when they decided to remove it due to U.S. domination, we lose to Japan in softball. Heck, in the World Baseball Classic in '06, Japan won there too, and we didn't even make the semis.
