Sports Illustrated - BETTER WITHOUT BYNUM?: Pau Gasol started to say "better,'' before quickly correcting himself and saying "different.''

When it comes to analyzing the Los Angeles Lakers offensively without Andrew Bynum, both answers could be correct. The Western Conference champions have kept rolling since losing their starting center last month.

"I wouldn't say that we're a better offensive team, we're a different team,'' assistant coach Brian Shaw said. "I think we become more versatile and the floor opens up a little bit more, because when he's there playing alongside Pau, teams tend to clog up the middle a little bit more. Andrew's a low post player and he's always down around the basket. Now with him being out of there, it opens it up a little bit more and it allows for us to have more driving lanes and what have you.''

Exactly the point:
Were not better, were different, and were not blowing teams off the court like we should be.
I can't wait for Bynum to get back so we can pull this thing off...

WITNESS Kobe.

definitely not better we're still scoring the same amount of points
the defensive end is where we're missing him most

Maybe in some very particular games, but in the long run, we need him.

Bynum is one huge piece that help gives us the most flexibility of any team in the league.

Take him away, and we lose the option of starting two seven-footers, one who can play a physical defensive game, and get easy baskets at the rim, while allowing the other 7-footer to play more of a free flow style and stretch the defense.

Nah, we're better with him. We can still play great without him though.

you may eat those words if we NEED to win without HIM

Also I think the Lakers play harder without Bynum
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers

have bynum and pau rotate and have lamar and powell rotate at PF

problem solved

Our offense seems to run better without him, as he is pretty slow at times changing ends. Our defense is
better with him, so I will wait until he returns.

Maybe we were better the first couple of games since everyone felt the urgency to step up their game when Drew went down.

But overall, we're obviously better when big Drew is out there. His recent aggressive play before getting injured helped us offensively and where he helps us significantly is on the defensive end.
