Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal seemed to get along on the way to sharing All-Star game MVP honors, though O'Neal professed more affection for Bryant than vice versa.

"We had a great time," Bryant said Monday, without much emotion. "I think people probably made a little bit more of it than we did. But we had fun."

Bryant also explained why he let O'Neal, 36, take the MVP trophy.

"You don't know how many years he's going to be playing," he said. "I've still got another six, seven, eight years to go. I felt it was the right thing to do."

Not everybody was enamored of the weekend.

"They go out and play that game and have a good time about it," said Jackson, who coached the West. "But we're there kind of like puppets."

I certainly [expletive]ing hope so, and hopefully all of them with the Lakers!

If Jordan can score 40 points at the age of 40, I don't see why Kobe can not

Considering his excellent work ethic i wouldn't be surprised if he can stay in the league for 8 more years and average 20 a game

Damn. 8 years? That means he's going to be in the league for 21 years. Wow.

Robert Parish. Parish's 21 seasons (1976-1997) and 1,611 games played are NBA all time records.

Kevin Willis is the oldest player in NBA history to play in more than one game in a season. He did this during the 2006-2007 season.

He could break Kareem's record for ASGs, and break the record for seasons played. Probably won't, but I hope so. If it wasn't for the lockout season, he'd have 12 ASGs right now.

Yeh for real. It's a shame though knowing it might be over looked with the emergence of LeBron James. He's like breaking all of Kobe's milestones every day now and he might have a lengthy career as well. Oh well though, hopefully Kobe can surpass Kareem.

The day Kobe leaves this game will be one of the saddest days of my life.

Even though this is just a game, I've been watching him from his very first game... I grew up watching Kobe grow... it's definitely more than just a "game" for me now.

No question about it.

Good catch OP. I read this earlier but didn't even think twice about this. I'm pretty sure a few years back, Kobe said he was going to play until he was 33 or 34. Nice to see that he's changed his mind (probably due to this team re-emerging as a powerhouse).

i dont want to think about kobe retiring, but i will take 8 more years
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers
