In the wake of the Lakers’ most recent acquisitions, Register reporter Janis Carr built a nice photo slideshow on the famous - and infamous - trades by Lakers’ General Manager Mitch Kupchak.

He got Pau Gasol and Trevor Ariza, but he also brought in Kwame Brown - and traded away Shaq.

mitch was always a vet how do you rebuild?

1.you blow up a team entirely which is what he did

2.draft hardworking talented players which he has bynum, farmar, ronny, sasha all hardworkers

3.keep an ear into the league to find out where the firesales are at mitch did that obviously

4.stay patient and ignore star players requests for trade(well thats just how it went for us)

5.be the lakers which means have an elite coaching staff(kareem with big men and phil with basketball)

mitch pulled off suffering only through 3 years of mediocrity while teams like the celtics, magic, cleveland, knicks all take decades to rebuild

mitch was said to be the most talented potential GM by jerry west the greatest talent evaluator of all time and mitch has continually proven him right over and over again

i mean brian cook and mo evans for trevor ariza, kwame and crittenton for pau gasol, drafting bynum, not trading kobe and drafting nice role players like sasha and jordan

oh not to mention signing josh powell who noone wanted but is a 25 year old with a future in this league much like brandon bass

mitch is the best GM in the NBA only to be topped by the spurs GM who seems to just keep reloading but the test will come when timmy retires and they have to rebuild around tony parker

mitch better win executive of the year

Well, he does have some idiotic moments, I give you that... Giving Devean George an extension was his biggest crime (I don't care if it was MLE or $1, he is Devean George)... Overall, he is pretty solid...

When you get rid of turds like Brian Cook, Kwame Brown and Vladimir Radmanovic for solid players, you doesn't suck... Now, if Mitch wave his wand one more time and trade Luke Walton for literally anything, he deserves a wax statue...

He's both, he's had his stupid moments, but he did get Gasol.

I'd plow Vanessa Bryant.

he might have gotten kwame but that ended up getting us Gasol

he might have signed Cook but that ended up getting us Ariza

as for the snaq debacle...i dont really think he had a choice...buss made the call and kobe was the priority at that time

Well, I gotta give it to him to trade our trash like Kwame, Cook, Atkins, VladRad, the remaining trash are Luke and Mihm.

Definitely can't be calling him a bonehead anymore. Before the Gasol trade, different story. Before the Ariza trade actually I guess.

Not a bonehead. He did get Pau and Ariza. He also did get Payton and Malone and we would've won the championship that year if it weren't for injuries.

Yeah he also traded Caron Butler for Kwame, rejected a Kings offer Bibby + Webber + Divac for Shaq and gave MLE to Sasha "Vujokic"

Overly conservative. That should be an option.

He did asked for Wade, but Riley said no because Shaq wanted to play with Wade.

Riley's not an idiot. He knew Wade was going to blow up, especially after those playoffs.

I believe the main deal he missed out was Nash/Jamison/Antoine Walker's expiring for Shaq. That may have been a better deal, for I believe Walker would have fit well in the tri, along with Jamison. And of course, we'd have gotten a future MVP in Nash.

brilliant, despite some GMs having personal agendas against the Lakers, he has not let the organization ever become a disgrace. Three years back in the Finals. He is brilliant.
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers
