http://msn.foxsports.....Big-Z's-value

Is there a more underrated player than Zydrunas Ilgauskas? I believe that his presence makes the Cavs a real contender, but without him they are merely ordinary, despite LeBron's numbers. What's your opinion? — Andy Heyman, Norwalk, OH

I couldn't agree more.

In the low post, Big Z is clumsy yet effective — scoring with a variety of hooks, step-through moves, and turnaround jumpers. Too bad he doesn't get a sufficient number of pivotal touches to maximize his effectiveness and also to force defenses to make adjustments that his out-passes could trump. Z's size and long arms also make him an excellent offensive rebounder.

His ability to knock down mid- and even long-range jumpers is another critical factor. Whenever the Cavs run screen/fades with Z and LBJ, the big guy usually winds up with an open jumper. And because Ilgauskas is such a proficient shooter, the centers who guard him are forced to venture away from the paint and out of their comfort zone. Plus, Z's jump-shooting opens up the middle and gives LeBron ample room to power his way to the rim.

Z's being an alert passer is a delightful bonus for the Cavs.

If Ilgauskas isn't quick enough to be a dynamic defender, he's both tall and long enough to take up considerable space in the lane. These same physical attributes also enable him to block shots whenever his lurking presence is ignored by opponents.

Indeed, Ilgauskas is one of the most underrated players in the NBA.

He's a very good player. Not an all-star, but fairly irreplaceable. Good defense, blocking shots and creating a presence. Could be tougher, but a nice player.

Underrated? A little bit, but he's no all-star.

Ilgauskas isn't that good at all. Guy is more overrated than he is underrated.. he putting up only solid numbers.. but heck, what else can you do with LeBron in you team.

^ you gotta look beyond the numbers. He's an excellent anchor to play team defense with and provides intimidation at the rim. Motivation or lack of focus is never a problem with him so you're always gonna get 100% out of him.

Well, looking at beyond the numbers, there's tons of players in the nba that are so called "underrated".

To my eyes, he has never been underrated at all.

Of course there are guys who have more impact than what the numbers show...Sheed, Tayshaun Prince, Pryzbilla, Scola, Landry...most of them are big men mind you.

Well you gotta follow what he does when the ball's not in his hands...thats where his impact is felt the most

You got me here. lol

Since i'm not watching most of the Cavs games, i really do not pay attention on how players move without the ball.. haha

But i'm still gonna stick to my opinion.

one thing he does is he makes them go offensively more so than everyone else on that team not named lebron

hes an unbelievable passing big man, a dead eye mid range shooter and can score very effectively on the block

defensively while hes a weak man to man defender he excells at blocking shots and grabbing rebounds

he doesn't allow other teams to overly clog the lane and he makes the cavs dangerous

with drew back i don't worry about him much but hes still a very good player

Yeh I think he's underrated too. He reminds me of my auto teacher because of his appearance and baldness.

Um...okay?

What's the point of your post? He's rated around where he should be. He's a very good center, but not an all-star. So how is he that underrated? He might be a little underrated, but not threadworthy when it comes down to it.

He ain't underrated or overrated. He's very stable and consistent. I would like him on any team if I were a GM.
