Indications are the Nets will keep Vince Carter, but things can change quickly. Team president Rod Thorn and general manager Kiki Vandeweghe will be in Phoenix this weekend with the other league executives. Trade talks throughout the league will heat up.

The Nets have to listen to proposals for Carter because championship hopefuls can become desperate as the deadline nears. If they could, Thorn and Vandeweghe would add a big man. They want to win. But they have to determine what makes the most sense.

The Nets would like to upgrade the small-forward position — Caron Butler and Mike Miller have come up – add more young, athletic players and get another point/combo guard.
