Basically, my iPod is dead. The jacks where you put your headphones in are bust. That means I need a radio adapter from the socket at the bottom to make things work. However, this makes the lead for tor the headphones really long, and inevitably, it got caught and now the radio adapter is kind of damaged. I've had like 3-4 iPod's. Apart from 1, which I broke, the rest have just been technical problems. Problems that were not caused by me. This has really pissed me off.

Since my iPod is on it's last legs, I was wondering, what would be a better replacment for around the same, if not cheaper price? My friend has a Zune and he's kind of clumsy so he's dropped it several times from a certain height, as well as many more.

Also, how easy is it to transfer the songs from different music libraries?

Thanks alot.

Zune is to iTunes as MSN is to AIM. It's better but not many people have it. (I don't have Zune but I do use MSN more than AIM)

I can't really answer your question here but I can tell you I've had an iPod's headphone jack crap out on me too (after nearly 3 years, I was washing the dishes and water seeped in through the jack) but was actually very happy with its performance up til then, I didn't exactly take the best care of it and dropped it many times. I now use it to play music at home and have since gotten a 160gb.

How much storage are you looking to get? There are many great MP3 players supposedly superior to the iPod / Zune, but for a vast amount of storage those two win out. Zunes don't have a 160gb model but are definitely fancier. I don't have one so can't compare.

I don't see the point of millions of GB of music. It's just not needed. My iPod is a 30gb one and I still haven't used a quarter of the amount.

Still, anything over 30gb and over would be nice.

Will I be able to transfer my music to the Zune/New Mp3? I know you can't transfer downloaded iTunes music, but most of my music has come from my friend lending me the cd and me burning it onto iTunes. It would be a hassle if I couldn't just drag and drop my library into a new library.

All help is much appreciated.

First of all, the point of all that space is to store all your music for easy access.. either on the go or in case your computer crashes suddenly.. and it is much needed, especially if you're a music fan. Having a 30GB and not using the space (unless you store GBs of files or something) is a waste of money, considering how much it costs.

Well your iTunes should have stored all of the CDs you burnt in My Music, or some other designated folder. All of your music is there. Some MP3 players are drag and drop, so just drag it. I don't know about Zunes, but all it really is is dragging your music into the Zune software.

I'll put it to you like this, I have 1,300 songs in iTunes and they take up 4GB. I'm looking for a few GB's give of course. My friend has the ultimate iTunes library and I'll probably get a bunch of stuff off of him. What player do you think I should be looking for?

I sure as hell don't need 80gb, but the Zune is actually more money than the iPod.

Interesting.

If I get anything, I'll get a friend to get it for me from the U.S.A. Because of the exchange rate, it will be cheaper.

Currently, a Zune is £160 whilst an iPod is £140. Both are 80gb.

Oh and Stella, how do you manage your music on a Zune? Is it a software like iTunes?

Yeah and iPod's have kicked me in the [expletive] badly.

I mean, one of the friends I am talking about who has a Zune is one clumsy person. For that Zune to still be working, it must be very durable.

I'll have to think about it of course and do my own research, but everything in this thread has helped me alot.

Good question.

I've also heard the life span on a Zune battery isn't that long, is this truth?

^^^
Its like itunes, but better, its simpler to manage your music, videos, and everything.

With the battery life, im pleased with it. Ive never been frustrated with its battery.
