Cavs, Bulls, Spurs and Raptors Interested In Vince Carter

Posted Image

The New Jersey Nets have spoken to San Antonio, Chicago, Cleveland and, surprisingly, Toronto about guard Vince Carter, the Newark Star-Ledger is reporting.

The Spurs are reportedly weighing up whether Carter would push them over the top in the West, but with San Antonio's salary structure being top-heavy, it's hard to see how a deal would be worked out.

Cavs and Bulls have a better chance with expiring k's and younger pieces.

The Raptors? I thought they hated him. I don't know if Vince would go back as well.

The most destination I think he's likely going to be is Cleveland.

No way he goes to the Spurs.

They would have to give up Ginobili along with some other pieces to match salaries.

Several Teams Want Vince Carter; Mavs, Spurs Not Among Them

Posted Image

A person familiar with the Nets told Ken Berger of CBS Sports that several teams are interested in Vince Carter, but Dallas and San Antonio are not among them.

New Jersey has had conversations with about six teams, but only serious talks one club.

On Friday night it was reported that the Spurs were the leading contender to land Carter, with the Mavericks interested as well.

It would kill the Spurs.

(I'd go through it again, but I already posted it in the other thread about the Spurs and Carter)

He needs to go to a team that needs pure offense. A younger team that needs some kind of veteran presence without having to rely on defense.

Nets: No Vince Carter Deal Yet

Posted Image

The New Jersey Nets have told the New York Post that they are active in trade talks, but no deal has been reached just yet.

"It's certainly not from a lack of trying," said GM Kiki Vandeweghe, talking generally about making a trade.

"We still have a few days," said team president Rod Thorn. "But as of right now, we have nothing. We've talked to a bunch of teams but we have nothing going on."

Most of the talk has surrounded around Carter, but according to the Nets nothing is close at this point.

"We have nothing going on for Vince Carter," Vandeweghe said.

Like I said in another thread, this would not be good for the spurs. It would kill chemistry:

There is reason to believe that the Spurs don't believe Carter meets that prerequisite, judging by Tim Duncan's comments during All-Star Weekend.

"No offense to Vince; obviously he's an excellent player," Duncan said. "We'd love to have him. But to give up most of our team to add one guy, I don't think that's the way you want to go."

And ...

"It's a long season and we have a lot of guys who have been here a long time and understand the way we want to play," Duncan said. "Just to insert one new piece and try to teach him in half a season the way we want to play isn't the way that we work."
