Great performance, but I hate how people nitpick him for having 3 assists.

Anybody remember the game Michael Jordan scored 55 in the Garden back in '95? He had 55 points, yet TWO assists.

I'd plow Vanessa Bryant.

Just the greatness-undeniable comment from his fans anyway...

/shrug

Kobe saved us last season after AB went down with a buzzer winner and hitting for 48...we should have expected him to kinda do it again tonight. But this is a much better show to say the least.

Message to the league: We are just starting to toughen it up for our big guy. And Kobe has Bynum riding with him while he's out.

Truly an amazing effort by Kobe tonight.

This game should (and had better) win him the MVP.

(The funny thing is Pau had a monster game too, 31 / 14, but it gets swept aside. I hope everyone doesn't forget that. Lamar was a beast on the boards too and Luke woke up defensively big time. Sprinkle in some Trevor, a more than ready Powell on the bench and Farmar with new found spark and suddenly its not a bad predicament for the Lakers to be in, huh?)

It was the efficiency that amazed me tonight. I also loved the Bynum mention in the post-game interview and letting everyone know that the fire has definitely been re-lit. He won't let expectations waiver or hopes get abandoned. Indeed it was a message game, but not only to the league.

It was a message game to the rest of the Lakers - that this year has found a new direction.

This kind of inspiring performance should raise the level of desire and urgency of the entire team.

Best part about it for me?

After being CRAZY-Hot from the field, the Knicks started sending the double early to get the ball out of his hands....what would the old Kobe do? Go 1 on 2 or 1 on 3...

What did Kobe do? Just transition to facilitator SEAMLESSLY!!!!

That let me know that he's serious about maintaining the same level of play for this team and he's not playing about the Lakers staying in the top spot in the West and in the top 3 in the league.

Good stuff.

Vintage Kobe right here. He took some really "bad bad shots" and "poor shot selection" was written all over it but those are Kobe's shots, they're at makeable for him. HE saw what the defense gave and he took advantage. Now when he has a couple of games where he goes 12 for 32 or 10 for 29 don't complain why he didn't take it to the hole or "settled" for long J's because these are the shots he's gonna take.

I thought the same thing GCMD.

Kobe's ability to know when to push scoring and when to use himself as a decoy and/or get others involved is at its absolute peak this year.

And he needs ~5 more to pass him on all-time 50 point games, too. Incredible.
