SourceThe Lakers are considering moving Bryant to small forward and making frontcourt player Lamar Odom a guard.
Odom at SG and Kobe at SF?

Phil Jackson wants to do this because doesn't want Kobe to use his energy to bring up the ball all the time. Have your best second scorer with handles do it. Kobe is more efficient in scoring at the wing position. Better than playing at SG. PJ did it in Chicago with Michael and Scottie. Michael played SF but will always guard the Guards on defense. He's gonna do the same exact experiment with Kobe and Lamar.I don't get this. Does this mean that Kobe will have to be guarding and playing against the SF against the other team while Lamar goes against the SG? Or will he just play the position on offense then back on defense he goes against the SG?

Oh I see what you mean. Yeh I think it's better for someone else other than Kobe to bring the ball up the court so he can set him. Usually I see him trying to post up.Phil Jackson wants to do this because doesn't want Kobe to use his energy to bring up the ball all the time. Have your best second scorer with handles do it. Lamar can barely play the 3, how is he going to manage the 2?

It'll last long. We've seen Lamar play SG aka the Scottie Pippen role before in 2006 and 2007. But Lamar was playing a bit outta position. He was playing the 4 instead of the 3. Since Lamar was playing the Scottie role but playing outta position, PJ let Kobe handled the assignment of bring up the ball most of the time in the 2008 season. Lamar had to bring up the ball at was staying in the high post most of the time instead of being in the post to do his damage and get offensive rebounds. We all know Lamar isn't a good jump shooter. He's a great offensive player when he's on the post. Now with Drew back and Pau in the front court. We don't have to worry much about getting points in the paint and not getting much offensive rebounds. Lamar hopefully is working on his jump shot as we speak. To be honest, I don't really see this strategy lasting all that long, if at all. But it appears the coaching staff is doing everything they can to get Lamar to fit.
