I think so, so does this writer:

With the Lakers' 99-85 win at STAPLES Center, Los Angeles and San Antonio have played 70 games against one another in the regular season and playoffs combined since the start of the 1998-99 season. Through those 70 games, the series score is now even, 35-35.

They are tied through TEN YEARS of playing each other.

Has there been anything in the last 10 years with that kind of staying power?

....

Look at the standings and see L.A. and San Antonio seeded 1-2 in the West yet again. These two teams, like their rivalry, are unrivaled.

Pretty amazing stuff, indeed.

Funny on how much I respect the Spurs. Even after the intense rivalry...

Yet...

In one year I hate the Celtics perhaps more than I ever have the Spurs...

Gotta be the best rivalry in the last 10 years. We always play well against each other, a lot of drama and crazy shots, they swept us first, then we swept them, we have 3 titles, they have 4, etc etc

Either the Lakers or Spurs have appeared in 9 out of the last 10 NBA finals.

Ridiculous.

i don't know too much on court respect for each other

i mean they have played some of the greatest postseason games in history against each other but the celtics 1 game was about as heated as any san antonio game ever got

there were battles but always so much mutual respect and really never any true hate

80's celtics and lakers hated eachothers guts respected one another but hated each other

i think there's too much parity in the nba for any rivalry to ever reach that level again.

true but this decade has shown you can always count on the lakers, pistons, spurs to be in the heat of things come may and june

but yeah there will never be a rivalry worth noting in sports history again only baseball but that doesn't count because noone statistically watches it

i guess you can say spurs and lakers are the best rivalry of this decade based on how many times we've played them in big games but seriously that suns first round 2 years were more heated than anything we've ever had with the spurs

i mean for godsakes i like tim duncan and ginobili and bowen and i also think poppovich is the only coach on phil and pat riley's level right now

In one year I hate the Celtics perhaps more than I ever have the Spurs...

when we play them in the playoffs and you see Parker going to the basket finishing through obvious CREATED contact you will be annoyed, when you see Ginobli hit three after three, and drive to the hole left after fouling KObe on a no call and stripping the ball ypu will detest them, and when you see Duncan cry about every call even obvious fouls from him and his mates, you will HATE them once again
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers

I posted this in another thread but the coaching match-up is something great. Over the last 36 games between Phil Jackson and Popovich, the record is 18-18. Before yesterdays game, it was 17-18 in favor of Pop who was the only coach to have a winning record against Phil Jackson.

no way is he droping 81 on me.

I see faith in your eyes
never you hear the discouraging lies
broken is the promise, betrayal
the healing hand held back by deepened nail
