I'm downloading it now. It looks riveting. I've heard the taskbar is one of the big improvements, and some say it's better than the osx launcher. Will share my opinion on it as soon as I finish downloading and trying it out. Will probably dual boot with Vista.

I usually don't use betas either, but I've seen mostly positive reviews (except for some mp3 problem, which they apparently made a fix for), so I figured that I might as well try it out.

I've used it for a couple months, have had no problems with it whatsoever. There are some bugs in the system but you wouldn't notice them through regular use. If you guys doubt it because it's beta, just know that many, many people have tested it the past couple months and it's been proven to be pretty stable. You can use it just like you would a normal OS - and it's the best-looking MS OS so far.

Win7 beta shouldn't be used as a main OS purely for security reasons (and the fact that it expires in August), but I prefer it over Vista!

let me know how that works out for you, i'm buying a Western digital raptor next month...i was planning on leaving my windows as is on this drive, and installing 7 on the new one. was wondering about driver issues, etc, and how smoothly it runs

I have a dual-core sys @ 2.4 each, 4gb ram, but there are numerous reports of people running it on old pentiums, and the lowest amount of RAM needed is 512 (Win7 recommends 1gb). 512 users reported that it ran smoothly, probably just as well (if not better) than a clean install of XP. Drivers are downloaded by Win7 on the initial startup, and if they're not you could always snag them off your manufacturer's website.

So basically Win7 is set to run on almost anything, unlike the resource hog Vista. All signs point towards it being faster and more efficient!

i figured i'd be ok, but you never know with betas sometimes they run bad even on fast systems,...i have a core2duo overclocked to 3.42ghz and 4 gigs ddr2

I mentioned in a previous thread that I got it, installed on VMWare. Looks fine, but Aero doesn't work in the VM so...

I dunno what to comment on it though, looks the same to me...kinda.

Installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit RC1 last night and been playing around with it. It's awesome. Fast, energy efficient (been using it on my laptop battery, and power consumption has been low), and the new taskbar is great. It's a huge upgrade from vista. I'll try installing some apps later (like photoshop and ms office). But so far, so good.

You see those LSD-inspired wallpapers? I got those on wallpaper slideshow. That's another cool feature, wallpaper slideshow. And it doesn't seem like it takes any resources at all.

Game, just installed office 07. No problems with installation and runs just fine.

PS cs3 worked for me. Don't know about alcohol, but I installed slysoft virtual clonedrive (freeware) and it worked fine. VLC works fine. I'll probably get around to installing a newsgroup and anti-virus program later tonight. I'm sure you can use google to check compatibility for the others.
